Im close (matter of a few weeks) to releasing a beta copy of my new game, which I intend to announce to the beta testing sites, games news sites and simultaneously send demos of the game to potential publishers. Obviosuly what is needed is some kind of press release to get publishers interested, but Im not sure exactly what form this should take. Ill be mailing the releases along with CDs of the game, but how long should a press release be, should it include a printed manual, screenshots etc? Id really appreciate looking over any press releases from other developers who are looking for a publisher, or any advice on what publishers will be looking for at that stage. If you are interested the games website is http://www.positech.co.uk/starlines/ Thanks http://www.positech.co.uk

You need to produce a press release to the news sites (and should include the consumer mags and trade papers) and a different doc (business proposal) for the publishers.

the press release should have a few screen shots along with it as you get more coverage if there is something pretty to look at.

Basically you need to put 120% into the presentation, as this is your one shot at getting a publisher.

1. Including screen shots in the business doc is a good idea and make sure the document is well laid out - don''t use Times New Roman ; )
2. Make sure you know whom it is going to.
3. Make sure the demo is a "publisher demo" not just a slightly bugged development demo. Put in extra work to make a good-looking demo because non-development people will view it.

Lastly - if you are interested in getting it published in Germany drop me an email as I have a client who is looking for finished product.
