I was wondering how one might get a start developing for consoles. To be a viable console developer you would probably need to learn each new console before it was released. How can one do this? Are there tutorials and so on available somewhere?

As far as other consoles, to my experience, the only option seems to be to go through its owner (Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony, etc) and that would require an organized company and a big chunk of change. Sorry I can''t help you much there. If you want info on Nintendo''s policy for those, go to http://www.warioworld.com and read up on the stuff there.
You don''t really need to learn the console before its released. That only applies if you want to get a launch or otherwise early game. The official dev kits, I would imagine, anyway, would include documentation on programming for them, but I''ve only used the GBA, and the tuturials on the links I''ve already given.
