Javascript / HTML5 best practices

Hi guys!

 

Recently I had some free time, and decided to dive into javascript and html5 stuff. I'm looking for some book / series of articles that are talking about how to write efficient code, or what are the best practices, especially centered around html5 and game development.

 

I looked around the web, found a huge amount of resources, but it's really hard to decide where to begin. I have several years of experience with c++, so learning the syntax is simple, so I know how to organize my code or do anything I want. But I understand, that developing for browsers, or working with script languages like JS is different. I just don't want to follow some random tutorial that pops up in my google search and learn bad practices.

 

So, in short do you know any good javascript / html5 resources about game development?

Drawing the alpha channel from a texture?

Hi guys! I have a floating point GL_RGBA texture, and I want to draw the alpha channel from it, but how can I do that (of course without using shaders, with that, it would be simple)? I have tried to use pixelstore functions but no success this far. Any ideas? regards, Pal.

Amount of free and used GPU memory?

Hi guys! Is there a simple and easy way to access the free and total gpu memory? I need to monitor both values (possibly per frame), using opengl and windows xp. Any ideas? Thx in advance!

creating opengl 3.0 context with ati radeon

Hi guys! Can anyone give me some guides, and help how to init opengl 3.0 on a radeon 2/3/4 series GPU (or generally speaking). I've tried to create some kind of context, but no success so far, and it's missing some kind of extension. I've tried the nehe tutorials but no success, the extension viewer tells, that I have only 2.1 opengl, but in theory the 8.9 included some kind of opengl 3.0 support (and I have some extensions from ogl 3.0 already working, on a 3650 and a 4870x2). (sorry for my minimal opengl knowledge, but the guy who works with opengl, have worse english than me, and I'm working with DirectX)
