In Topic: Whats with the ads are being dropped message

We take safe advertising very seriously and invest in ensuring safe delivery. For this reason we believe asking users to whitelist GameDev.net is not asking much - if we didn't care about the ads being served and everyone received malware then we would only be hurting ourselves and the community.

Highest priority ads are the ones coming from our customers directly. Those are obviously screened.

Next are the networks - Google Adsense and Amazon. These are reviewed on a weekly basis and/or removed from distribution if reported.

So yes, we do review the ads. Every once in a while one sneaks in on us, but once it's found we remove it immediately.

FWIW, we receive lucrative advertising offers from networks on a regular basis, but very few of these networks can be trusted to deliver safe advertisements. It's always been our position that while there must be a fine balance between ensuring the survival of GameDev.net and providing a safe experience for all of our users, in the end the safe experience for users always has priority.

I wholeheartedly agree with the idea, and it's on the list for "Better GameDev.net ads".

Unfortunately Steam doesn't have an affiliate ad program. However, we're looking at non-Steam alternatives to show more game-related ads. As a Steam user myself this isn't ideal, but it falls in the area of "better".

Actually already looking at the HB partner program, so "yes".

The ideal world is getting developers to advertise their games with us. We can give a very competitive, preferred rate to indie developers (hint, hint). Or, they can use GDNet+ and post the ads themselves.

We have some upcoming announcements in the coming months that may help with this too.

Also, glad the FB post we put out helped you find the GameMaker deal. Even though we didn't get a referral on that, it's our intent to make sure you know about great deals. :)

We also have some upcoming announcements in the coming months that may help with this too.

In Topic: Ad Blocker Notification

Anyway we're looking for solutions to the problem. These solutions won't come right away, but we're taking this very seriously.

Can I suggest that we look at implementing AdBlock Plus' "Acceptable Ads" (which AdBlock Plus does not block by default)?

I'll submit GameDev.net to the program, but they have criteria that I know we're not going to comply with, nor are we going to change the site to comply with it because their criteria hurt our ability to generate revenue for the bills.

But we'll see what happens. There are better solutions than complying with that initiative. Keep in mind, AdBlock Plus isn't a knight in shining armor - they are in the game to make money like everyone else.
