Tagging the OP

16 December 2014 - 12:28 AM

Hello GD.Net Staff & Mod's smile.png

I did a quick search but did not find a similar suggestion.

Could you add a simple "tag" to the "banner" of the OP ?

Here is an example of what I am talking about: There is some red text on the right of the "banner" saying "OP".

What heap wil dynamic memory be created on

24 November 2014 - 03:12 AM

Hello all.

I am busy working on makeing a vertual file system, And I've run into a problem that I may have been cruising around because all my DLL libraries are using the same platform toolset( And that means the same heap right? ).

That problem is: Who is responsible for deallocating the memory: Caller or Callee ?

So if I create a structure like so:

struct Blob
          unsigned char* pData;// std::vector< unsigned char > Data
          size_t Length;

(Would the vector dealoccate itself from the right heap?)

As far as I know if the structure was allocated on heap A and the caller is using Heap B and deallocates it there will be a crash or segfault or something, Right?

So the bottom line is: How do I make sure that the memory is deallocated from the right heap.

Am I correct in my understanding of dynamic memory here?

Many thanks

nVIDIA more strict then AMD ?

28 January 2014 - 12:18 AM

Hello everyone.

In the thread Best Laptop for Game Development Uberwulu mentioned the following( Irrelevant info removed ):

In any case, for consumers, I recommend AMD video cards.  For developers, I recommend nVidia but ONLY because nVidia is harder to develop for (you can get away with a lot more from AMD cards where nVidia would otherwise crash).

And I read somewhere that it was the other way around, So what are the differences between them on that note ?

Many thanks.

VS 2013 Compatibilty with Xp & VS 2010

30 October 2013 - 04:10 AM

Hello everyone.

I've been looking at getting visual studio 2013 express, But I saw some MSDN blog post or something saying that the .4.5.1 is a inplace upgrade of .Net 4.

So does this mean that i cannot build .Net 4 applications with either VS 2010 or 2013 ?

I don't want to download and install it and find that there are problems, Well i could setup a VMWare machine to test but i would like to have windows XP support atlest for the .Net app's.

Thanks in advance
