Are my graphics good enough, Please comment

20 February 2013 - 03:31 PM

I have been dabling with computer aided graphics for over 10 years but never got to serious about it. I have done alot of 3d graphics in the past but now am really into Pixel art, and with the growing popularity of Tablet PC's I can see a good market for it..  But I just don't know if I am talented enough to make any kind of income from my art. So a link below is to my website where I have several pixel art drawings of mine. Please tell me if you think I am good enough to make it, or if I should do something else and forget art.

Thank you

Notable Software for Game Design

03 December 2012 - 07:46 PM

I just want to share some of the rare software gems I've stumbled upon. I know for free the Blender program is main stream and is a good program. But theres also a program from DAZ called Hexagon that is for free download and in my eyes is very superb and I would pay hundreds to get it if it wasnt free.. Heres a screenshot from the web

DeleD 3D

Theres also another App called DeleD 3D that seems is also free and also seems to be a kind of copy of Gmax.. I don't think this software compares to hexagon but I know alot of people despretly try to use Gmax for game design but because of its limited export feature it never works. DeleD 3d is a good one, has alot of the same tools and layout.

heres a screen

And for 2d I find a good program is Paint Shop Pro, its not free like gimp but its a good one.

thanks, hopes this helps people with design needs.. and def try Hexagon

Help on Choosing Language for Game

23 July 2012 - 09:40 AM

I am wanting to start a solo game project for myself, it will be a browser based text adventure game, not a multiplayer game and the only graphics I am thinking of is a 2d Map that players can use to navigate the world map... such as going into dungeons, following roads ect.

I'm not to experienced with programing but have done graphics for awhile, and am wondering if theres a engine out there that would help, or atleast which language would work for this game. My only guess would be Java.. but any input will help on how to get started thank you

Newbie Help.. Realistic Goals

13 February 2011 - 07:01 PM

I've always wanted to develop games, I've been dabbling with 3D Graphics, and 2D Spires and Animations as well as Texture art for 12 years. However I have little to no experience with Developing Games from start to finish.

For one I'm not sure where to start.

The idea I want right now is a Single Player Browser Based Medieval RPG, with light magic and enchantment

I wont get into the Game Design, but the features would be

A Nice, user friendly Interface

A Graphical 2D Map to explore and Navigate, with features to make map exploration a fun part of the game in and of itself.

Wilderness Survival, such as Enduring cold and Heat, Needing Food, Climbing Cliffs, (Maybe some elements of the Old Oregon Trail game if anyone remembers)

Probably no 2D Animations involved, Battles would be more text and Story Based

And I wouldn't mind alot of Randomly Generated Gameplay, such as Quests and Missions..

And the standard varies RPG stuff, like Levels or no levels, skills, class's.. joining Factions like Oblivion to become a Knight .. etc

One of my Goals for this Game is to keep it Alive for as long as I can, so the ability to add contect and features with ease. Such as Eventual Animations, more graphics and sophisticated fun features.

So I suppose the questions I have are related to,

Is this realistic for a One man Team?

What software should I use? Python? Java?

Any Pre made Game engines suited for Browser rpg's to help with Game design?

The main thing I'm working on, which is Hardly anything right now, is a Open Source Game Graphic Resources for developers to use freely in game, such as Character Modeling with Animations, Prefabs such as Buildings, Walls, Tree's.. Seemless Textures, ect

However a Big peace of my work and passion seems missing, creating my own game for people to enjoy, And any feedback is highly appreciated , thank you
