Finding the Slope of a giving Vertex in HLSL

11 September 2012 - 08:29 AM

I am working on developing a Game Engine. A big part of the Engine will be Procedural Content. Well the first Procedural thing I am working on are Planets based on ROAM. I've got the planets being generated and the terrain is created using the code for the Complex Planet example for Libnoise. I am now trying to set up texturing in a HLSL vertex and Pixel Shader. I'm able to texture it based on Height but I now want to texture the slopes a different texture. How can I go about getting the slope of the vertex? Thanks!

Rise of Heroes: Online - Indie MMO - Public Alpha Testing

14 June 2012 - 04:01 PM

I just wanted to let everyone know that my MMO - Rise of Heroes: Online - is Open for Public Alpha Testing. Last Saturday I released a Demo of the Login Screen over on Unity3D's forum then Sunday I released Patch Alpha 0.0.2 which included the Demo of the Login Screen and a Launcher/Patcher. Tomorrow I will be release Patch Alpha 0.0.3 which will include a full MultiPlayer Test Environment.

RoH is a OpenWorld Sandbox PvP based MMO with some Theme Park Elements (Mobs, Quests, ect). The Theme park elements will be completely voluntary and if you would rather just play for the Sandbox elements that's fine!

Guilds will be able to create Towns and Cities and then fight over them, Land, and Resources. The Game is highly geared for Guild play but you could play solo but are limited in the size of outpost you can build.

The following Screenshot is from my testing version of Alpha 0.0.3 - All GUI Icons are placeholders just to get a feel for what the GUI will look like!

MMO Inventory Discussion

16 March 2012 - 07:58 AM

I am working on Items and Inventory for my HeroEngine powered MMO Prototype and was wondering what you guys thought about Quest Items... Do you guys think they should take up space in your main inventory or should they have their own Inventory that is seperate from the Player's Main inventory?

Rise of Heroes: Online NEEDS you!

12 February 2012 - 05:37 PM

I am happy to announce that Rise of Heroes: Online is getting ready to start some very Early Pre-Alpha Testing. By Early Pre-Alpha I mean Testing for our Prototype! Our Prototype Area Consists of an area roughly 200 meters by 200 meters and will contain roughly 10 to 20 minutes worth of content.

Rise of Heroes: Online is being Developed using the HeroEngine using their HeroCloud Service.

About Rise of Heroes: Online

Rise of Heroes: Online is a MMORPG Virtual World. My Overall goal is to create a Virtual World where the players can live and play in a ever changing, Dynamic environment. I would like to see RoH push the bounds of current MMOs in the areas of Naturally Evolving Story, Content, and NPCs. I am personally tired of going into a town and ALWAYS seeing the same old NPCs and Content. I want a Game where the NPCs Evolve along with the players. NPCs that have wants, desires, needs, and memory is the Ultimate goal of RoH.

To start with however I am starting out small and working up. My Goal with the First version of RoH is to create a Fun small scale Theme Park MMO. It will be largely PvM with PvP Battle Grounds and will use Questing to drive the story line (Think WoW).

Through Constant updates we will expand PvP and will open up some new continents geared toward PvP and Guild based Game play mechanics that will be added post Launch.

At the moment I am working on a basic Quest Framework which will be expanded and improved upon as new systems are brought online. So far we have the ability to create Kill and Dialog based Quests and I am working on a small quest Prototype which will contain roughly 10 to 20 minutes worth of content.

At this time I am NOT looking to form a team per say but I am looking for a few people who would be willing to help out with testing Quests and other Game Features. If your interested please leave a message in this thread! Thanks!
