Night Lone's Journal > Adventures in Programming: The Second Update

Posted Night Lone on 04 September 2014 - 12:40 AM

So, I said I'd discuss problems and other things here gamedev related; so lets get started!

The biggest problem with game development, for newbies, in my opinion (could be wrong) is looking at the whole picture, think, "This is easy!" then do a few weeks work, learn that it's not as easy as was once thought of, and now all motivation is lost and you're...

Night Lone's Journal > Adventures in Programming: The Start....Kinda....

Posted Night Lone on 18 August 2014 - 12:36 AM

Well, not the start of my adventure in programming, that started when I was 14, and it started on a single core, 800MHz Pentium with 32MB RAM and 6GB HDD, but thats another story.
This is the start of my new attempt at a journal series! Here I'll discuss problems, and solutions I have while programming...just about anything I'm programming. This may be a...

Night Lone's Journal > Mar 15: KISS. Keep It Simple St–Unwise one...Drawing for games

Posted Night Lone on 15 March 2014 - 02:58 PM

Just saying, rather in programming, drawing, or anything, the best thing to learn is this: Keep It SIMPLE. More complex something gets, the more time it takes to make, the more time spent doing something you may want to avoid. Also, the more time it takes to someone to read it. Drawing on the other hand, more complex it gets, the more time it takes away f...

Night Lone's Journal > Feb 25: Blog, Twitter, Social networks...SCREENSHOT!

Posted Night Lone on 25 February 2014 - 04:31 PM

First off, for all those who begged for screenshots:

Then I learned how to get the true FPS to show...Next shot will show what my mac can do xD
Just saying, Collision detection takes a LOT from the computer, but right now both windows and mac machines are taking it nicely, once I add some more characters that need to stick...

Night Lone's Journal > Feb 22: Goals, 3D modelling and Programming

Posted Night Lone on 22 February 2014 - 04:21 PM

just a little update to all...I'm actually programming a game!

There should be a screenshot at the end of the month showing what I've done. Every week I'll try to keep this updated...Maybe...I won't release the name of the game (as i'm not 100% decided on it) I'll be updating my twitter more with finer details, and be listing what I've done every week, p...

Night Lone's Journal > Jan 28 Update

Posted Night Lone on 28 January 2014 - 04:56 PM

Well, I'm not dead >.< and I've been thinking; for those who don't know, I'm planning on trying to write a comic, now, I know my art is at least good enough to get some attention (I've seen a webcomic displaying art that looks like a 5yo can do). Hopefully by the end of it, my skills will be better, and if it gets enough attention, I'll then imple...

Night Lone's Journal > Well, In a little corner here

Posted Night Lone on 20 January 2014 - 02:24 PM

I drew these last night (see bottom), and during a meeting, (where my drawing skills was actually needed to be tested, so I brought these and others in) someone mentioned that what I drew reminded them of something already did; so I don't wanna steal some copyrighted materials. So if these look too similar to something (please link what you're comparing t...

Night Lone's Journal > My Life Lately: C++ and its problems

Posted Night Lone on 16 January 2014 - 12:38 AM

First of all, I would show progress about something, but nothing to show progress on; I'm attempting at some basic coding, and...well rather my skills are a tad bit rusty, or my IDE hates me. Considering I did everything by the book (err tutorial) I'm thinking I did something horribly wrong with installation of my IDE. I do not, cannot(too big of a downlo...

Night Lone's Journal > Drawing Week 1 Day 3: Fish Race

Posted Night Lone on 12 January 2014 - 02:15 AM

Just saying right now, i hate how detailed he needed to be!! I did the feet and one hand; the hand is to show that it's not like a human hand but different, I know it looks off but...well...no buts, it looks off!! Also, his one foot looks...well...ugly...but, like they say, hands and feet are one of the hardest things to do, especially so in such a small...

Night Lone's Journal > Drawing Week 1 Day 3: Simple Notification

Posted Night Lone on 11 January 2014 - 03:12 PM

No image yet; might not actually post one. Just a few simple notes really.
1) All images I'm submitting are just "prototypes" as I'm learning. I'm going to almost completely ignore the hands at this stage.
2) All images are of alien life, going to be separated in six races, the images I'm showing is the base template really.
3) most "official" images will...

Night Lone's Journal > Drawing Week 1 Day 2: New Character

Posted Night Lone on 11 January 2014 - 04:03 AM

Well, Today...err...yesterday...was uneventful until midnight >.<
I had this drawing challenge with a friend and while, she finished her drawing in 8 minutes, it was a copy, but i did admire how fast she did it. While my first attempt, 44 minutes later (while talking to Seg) and well...it didn't turn out how I would like it...the Desert race looke...

Night Lone's Journal > Drawing Week 1: Plans and progress

Posted Night Lone on 10 January 2014 - 02:58 AM

Well, the biggest reason why you guys haven't heard from me in a while was because i was...well, dead outta ideas and busy and other crap. Now I'm back! With many many ideas....actually, just a few, and I'm drawing for a bit to see how effective each idea will be, before going after them. Since I'm the primary artist...only artist...in my team, I gotta ma...

Night Lone's Journal > Day X+Lost in time...Just a small update

Posted Night Lone on 01 November 2013 - 01:01 PM

Just a little update for ya guys. I've done some headaches and finally got the Marching Cubes Algorithm working. Next time I do that, I'm gonna not have such a confusing system xD
I would paste some code in here, but might as well just link where I learned Marching Cubes from. http://paulbourke.net/geometry/polygonise/
Also, so that you haven't wasted to...

Night Lone's Journal > Day X+4-5: Project Universal Secret. A Little Change

Posted Night Lone on 17 October 2013 - 12:13 PM

My original plan, well lets just say, was a bit ambitious and foolish. I realized this thanks to a friend who inadvertently made me realize that simulating all what I wanted to simulate was...stupid for one man to try it alone. Thankfully I'm reverting to a simpler piece of the original game, and changing the genre. Instead of focusing on an entire univer...

Night Lone's Journal > Day x+3: Project Universal Secret. Fixing Phantom

Posted Night Lone on 14 October 2013 - 11:52 AM

Well, I was really Lazy on Day X+3; Fixing Phantom wasn't as hard as I figured. It is still in the code of course, but it doesn't crash the whole system. I gave the system to my mother to test it (she crashed it the first minute last time I showed her, so it seems she's a VERY good beta tester) She actually didn't crash it this time...Next step: Sister......
