Topics I've Started

Using a free game engine.

24 September 2014 - 03:33 AM

I don't know if these is a taboo to ask here but here goes.

So I want to start learning and prototyping games with Unity3D engine. And I'm planning to get the cracked version of it. Of course I know I have to pay for things if I want to actually publish a game, but right now as I said, only for learning getting to know the engine. So my question is if I decided to go with Unity and buy the full pro version, can I still use assets and data I made with the cracked ver?.

Inspiration guilt

28 August 2014 - 07:02 AM

This is an idea that I've come up with an idea for my RPG game for a long time. One of the main concept of the gameplay is that the characters uses their 'materialized' subconscious to fight. Now you might think "Isn't that Persona?" but actually that is 100% inspired by Stand from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure that I read since I was like 9 and have fell in love since.I've dreamed to become comic artist for years before and every single time I ended up with a concept that is somehow a form of Stand. Now that I'm actually want to develop video games, I took the ideas from my comics and converted them to fit into video games instead.  Here's my dilemma now. I've read somewhere that Persona creators admit that they also are fan of JoJo. But now I'm thinking " Is it too late for me to do this?" since the Persona series have planted it's root in the mainstream for a long time now and I feel like people are just gonna see my game as a rip-off of Persona. Now I'm at a halt and losing motivation to continue with this idea. Should I just go with the idea or should I reconsider it?

Getting started

So I'm pretty much a newbie in this, despite several attempts before. I'm still deciding where to get start with. I'm currently looking at either GameMaker or Unity3D. My dream goal is to make a character action game (DMC,Metal Gear Rising, Killer is Dead, etc). My main problem that made me failed on several attempts before is coding. I consider myself to have ZERO programming knowledge (no, I'm not trying to be humble, HONEST). Of course I realize the game I'll be able to make is no where the scale of the games I mentioned. So which game engine should I pursue and is there any recommendation of techniques I should be learning to code?

Learning Javascript

21 March 2013 - 09:48 AM

I actually want to be a game director/designer in the future but couldn't wait to create a game.So I got Unity3D and now I'm stuck with the programming aspects.I want to learn Javascript for the scripting but so far I haven't found any tutorial video on youtube that I can understand.I have ZERO knowledge about programming.I want to ask you guys to perhaps to show me some good tutorials on learning Javascript for someone like me.

Getting re-start

Couple of months ago I made a thread about wanting to learn programming. And I admit,I'm a slow learner with this thing.I've only learned about 50% of HTML.That's it.When I was learning programming,I freaked out because of how hard things are and I basically gave up.Thankfully I got my motivation again. Now here's my problem.I want to be a game director in the future. And I couldn't wait to start making prototypes. And the whole reason I want to learn programming is for creating Scripts in Unity3d.I guess I got too ambitious to start making game and start off with Unity3d because the type of game I want to make is 2.5D action-platformer game. But now I'm willing to start learning with simpler software like GameMaker.I need help from you guys, what should I actually do,use, and learn from?
