IDE most comparable to VS

08 October 2012 - 07:04 AM

Hi guys!

I have a solid basis in programming and I'm learning Java at the moment.
I also know C++, VB.net, etc...

My IDE has always been Visual studio (2008-2010-2012), but that doesnt support Java.
What IDE do you guys suggest that is similar to VS (I'll use it for some simple games).

I have used the search option, but most topics were 11-4 years old Posted Image

Wasn't c++ support announced for XNA

27 June 2012 - 04:11 PM

Hi guys!

This might be a dumb question, so be prepared.

A few weeks ago, I think I read some stuff about microsoft announcing xna for c++.
But now I can't find any information on the subject online.

Am I that mistaken or is it indeed coming (VS 2012?).

Let me know!

How to code a swinging movement

08 May 2012 - 05:13 PM

Hi guys!

I have to built a small prototype of a concept my team came up with.
I'm having some issues on letting to spider swing it's web.

So how can I code a swinging movement of a spider with a web attached to a fixed point?
It has to swing a few times, before losing it's velocity and then hanging still.

This may sound a bit confusing, but this "drawing" should make it clear.

Many thanks in advance!

(This would have been better in the Math & Physics forum...)

2D - Make enemy aim at hero

31 March 2012 - 05:03 AM

Hi guys

For an assignment at school, I'm coding the first level of Contra in c++.

I've coded a huge part of the level and elements atm, but I'm having trouble finding an algorithm for the AI.

This is the spirtesheet I use for the soldier. As you can see, it looks in 3 directions (left and right not included).

My question is now: How can you make the soldier aim at the hero?
Do you have to substract the Y-positions from each other and then divide that number by 3 and get the right direction out of that number?
It would be awesome if somebody could give me a working solution for this.

Underneath, you find some pictures of the real game, just to give you guys an idea of how it should be.

Play a video file in c++

27 March 2012 - 12:52 PM

Hi guys

I'm coding a small game atm (using a game engine) and I want to implement a video.
Since there isn't a video class included in the engine, I'm looking for some c++ code to do it for me.

I've been looking all over the internet for a few hours now, without any succes.
Most of them have dead links or talk about a win32 form (and not an application, which I use).

So hopefully anybody of you guys can help me solve this problem (I need it pretty quick).

Thanks in advance!
