Where Do I Start? So Many Possibilities

27 July 2013 - 05:37 PM

Before I ask my questions, I should give some info on my background.

  • I'm a Senior in High School
  • I'm in AP Computer Science A (Java based)
  • I take Digital Interactive Media, which gave me extensive experience with Photoshop and editing programs

So, I want to make games. But how? Like what would be some pointers to push me in the right direction? Is Java beneficial to the industry?

I really have no prior experience other than making a couple tutorial games with game maker back in 6th grade, haha.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! smile.png smile.png smile.png

Trying to become an Indie Dev, where to start?

27 June 2012 - 03:28 PM

Hey guys, if I'm trying to develop a game, what software should be used? Also, is programming a need to know?

Completely new. What do I do? Where can I start?

27 June 2012 - 02:32 PM

So I've always wanted to work in the video game industry, but I have no clue what jobs there are. I'm 15 years old and have no experience with programming at all. I just have a couple questions:

1. What different kinds of jobs are there in the industry? I'm trying programming and I have good experience with photoshop.

2. I plan on majoring in computer science once i get into college, can that be applied to other jobs as well if I can't make it?

3. If I tried becoming an indie dev, how much would software cost?

4. How big is programming in the industry?

I'm sorry if I sound a little out there, I just don't know where to start, any help would be greatful! Posted Image

New to game development; Where do I start?

15 June 2012 - 04:12 PM

So, I'm kinda new to game developing, also, I'm new to programming and everything in general, so I don't really know how to start learning.
I'm currently in high school, and I'm about to take my first computer science class this year, but I want to learn beforehand so that I can get a better understanding. Eventually I want to develop games, but where should I start?

Should I start by learning a language first? If so, what? Or using a game engine like UDK or Unity?

If someone could please help me I would be thankful!! Posted Image
