#5023563 Version control for begginers

Posted by on 20 January 2013 - 12:26 PM

Hi all!

Some people recommend me to use any version control software for help me in the organization and realization of my proyects. Im looking for information about source control and Im realy lost with the lot of things I readed in some minutes. Git, Merculial, Perforce, Bitbucket, etc, etc.

The only I need is a tool for support and made development easier, but from what I'm reading it seems that I will only complicate my proyects with those softwares.

I want to focus in make games, not in learn to use a source control software,

so, what is the best option for a complete beginner in this matter?

Thanks you very much for the help!

#5016858 Good habits for game development

Posted by on 02 January 2013 - 03:59 PM

Im starting to make big proyects (of course, big in relation to my previous proyects) and I'm beginning to consider how to make game more efficiently.

One thing I realized about my little experience is that is very important to design the whole game and the structure of the code before start writing, although I have not put this into practice.
So what I should consider about this point?
And in general, what I should consider for become a better game developer and make better games?

Thanks you for the help!!

#5011003 Save bool variables in a file

Posted by on 15 December 2012 - 01:10 PM

Hi, Im stack with one code:
I have an array with 8 maps: ObjectMap map[8].
Each map have a member "bool unlock".
First, 7 maps are locked, when the player reach many objectives the maps become unlock.
I want to make a file like this (for save the state of the maps):

0 true
1 true
2 true
3 true
4 false
5 true
6 true
7 true

So, how can I write and read this file using fstreams?
I need map[0] get the bool state 0 from the file, map[1], bool state 1, etc.

Thanks for the help!
