Need help on a java problem

I have a java problem for class and I Have no idea where to begin with it. the problem is

 

 

Write a while loop that accepts numbers from a user and sum only the numbers that 
are odd? The loop quits if the given input number is -9999. 
 
any help would be greatly appreciated

I just began teaching myself c++ a few days ago. I decided to use what I have learned so far to create a quiz game to help me study for finals. Its a pretty simple program but its effective.

Which programming language should I teach myself?

I have spent a few weeks learning c++ and have written a few long programs but everyone tells me c++ is useless. Is that true? If so what is the best language to start with? I plan to try and create my own games once I settle on a language.
