Am I right that all those patent trolls only exist, as in Texas the loser doesn't need to pay all fees from both parties?

Well I guess that's why we don't see such in the EU.

Little hope on the horizon for Austin Meyer of X-Plane? I still need to translate with google:

#5267148 Vulkan is Next-Gen OpenGL

Again, I don't see what I could need on Ubuntu. I'm pretty sure all will be open and integrated by default. So what exactly are you talking about?

Better than Vulkan? In what ways? Nothing beats OpenSource.

#5240847 Help me to clear up my confusion about OpenGL

Posted by FGFS on 16 July 2015 - 11:31 AM

I found OpenGL easy, evenmore as I use it with SDL, because the're lots of examples. Using DX will only lock you to M$, like Ms Office a complete waste of time. Most of MS Office features you will never ever use!

But anyway I would go with Unreal/Unity/Godot etc...

Never mind, I've stumbled across:

and got it all fine now with that listener formula. Exactly what I needed. wub.png

#5238337 OpenAL play sound

Posted by FGFS on 04 July 2015 - 07:27 AM

I've tried something alike but I gave up and look for source direction like I've said before:

                if (hdgL[0] >=0.0){
                alListenerfv(AL_ORIENTATION, ListenerOriVorne);
                }else{
                    alListenerfv(AL_ORIENTATION, ListenerOri);
                }

Any examples I've found are too simple to not use any of the above.

Giving such links is nothing but a waste of time, sorry. Is he trying to sell me stuff? I didn't even bother to read that spam.

I still have no idea on how to play a sound only once.

and I ran into another problem on how to set source direction:

alSourcef (Sources[1], AL_DIRECTION, 0, 1, 0.0 );

I get "too many arguments but I cannot find any doc about that.

Any examples I've found are too simple to not use any of the above.

#5235401 C Language and SDL - Getting Ready for Vulkan API

Posted by FGFS on 18 June 2015 - 12:25 AM

if you're never done graphics programming, Vulkan is not the API for you. Khronos and Microsoft are recommending that simple projects or novice programmers stick to OpenGL/D3D11 rather than trying to jump to Vulkan/D3D12.

Where did you get this from? Link?

While Vulkan like DX12 or Metal will require more code, I don't think this makes it more complicated. In fact I rather expect Valve to ship examples with MIT licenced code. So I guess around August/September you could start programming for Vulkan. I'm curious if X-Plane etc. will make that move.

SDL is cross platform but I've only used 1.2 for texture and sound loading. OSX install was a bit annoying. Lots of wrong osx examples floating around...

#5215153 cast int to char*

Yes thanks. It works with snprintf on Ubuntu, I'll later compile it on Win/OSX.
