PS3 Homebrew

02 September 2010 - 10:34 AM

I'm surprised that there isn't an active thread about the PS3 USB jailbreak device here (or I just failed spectacularly in finding it).

Since I actually have an Atmel USBKey lying around I've been tempted to try it, but haven't mostly since there seems little point to it until there's a development tool chain available. The possibility of being able to do some PS3 homebrew development is alluring though.

How about you though? Are you planning on trying to do some homebrew PS3 development or maybe already have some project in mind? Will you hold off performing any firmware updates as Sony is more than likely to release a patch sometime soon disabling this particular hack?

Personally, I bought my PS3 rather recently so I still have a large backlog of older games to go through, so I likely won't be forced to update in he near future by buying some new game. I also don't use PSN, so I imagine I could hold out updating for some time if I needed to.

And please, leave the inevitable piracy discussion to some other thread.

Recommend me a database-book

21 August 2006 - 06:22 AM

Hello. I'm in need of a good textbook/reference on databases. It should cover SQL, normalization, schemas, diagrams, design, etc. In short; a complete reference. This is the book I've been recommended, but I don't quite like the text-to-information ratio and writing style. A concept that should've been summarized on half a page followed by an indepth explanation/analysis is instead exploded into bits and pieces over far more pages than necessary, which isn't really my idea of a good reference. I was hoping the friendly gdnet community would help me with alternative suggestions.

My trusty old laptop is getting aged (a Thinkpad 570e with a whooping 450Mhz) and lately the Apple have been beckoning me. So I've been thinking of getting a MacBook (the white 1.83Ghz version. Being a student, I can't really motivate paying more than that) It's been out for a while but I can't seem to find any good reviews of it, and I've heard no opinions based on more than 10 minute usage either. So, could maybe the GDNet community help me out a bit? Opinions? Experiences? Recommend me a good review?

Music discovery services/Net Radio

15 October 2005 - 08:17 AM

It has probably already made the rounds, but for those that weren't aware.. www.pandora.com: Classifies music and let's you set up a personal net radio with similar music to what you enter. 36$/year but has a 10 hour trial. www.last.fm: Similar to pandora, but it seemed to me that it was a lot more random and had a smaller library of songs. On the plus side though, it's a free service [grin] www.liveplasma.com: Enter an artist/director or movie and it shows a map of similar work and how they relate. Happy listening.

Anyone pre-ordered Guild Wars?

24 February 2005 - 05:24 AM

I'm interested in it, but I'd like to try it out before I fork out $50 quids. According to the guild wars site, people who pre-ordered can share a one-weekend pass with friends. So if someone got one to spare and willing to share, please PM me.
