Embarrassing Projects

04 April 2009 - 04:05 PM

I came across a project I submitted to a gamedev contest way back in 2000, I almost sent an email to have it taken down. I remember making this game in a relatively short period of time 2-3 weeks , cant remember I was in college at the time. I had a good idea but the implementation was horrible at best. I should have explained the rules more clearly. The artwork sucks major balls. Anyway if you are interested in looking at it.. Laugh make fun of it or whatever, but I would be interested in seeing some of your worst projects, if you are brave enough to show them. [Edited by - Tha_HoodRat on April 4, 2009 10:23:14 PM]

Can I make a game in 3 Hours?

02 March 2009 - 10:27 PM

I am currently in San Jose CA for a business trip. I am going back to Dallas TX on Saturday and I was thinking the flight back is like 3 1/2 hrs and boring as hell. Figured I would challenge myself by attempting to make a game in 3 hours. My python and c# skills are weak, so I figured I would pick either pygame/pyglet or XNA and make a simple game. I have a few of rules. 1. I have the rest of the week to think about the game, game play design etc, but I cannot commit anything to paper or any electronic media it has to exist in my brain. 2. The game has to be original It cannot be a clone ala pong, space invaders, tetris etc 3. I cannot use any of my existing code, that means anything I created before 9am pacific 3/7/2009 ( time of my flight). 4. The game cannot be something lame like guess my number neither can it be as awesome as a hockey MMORPG using html and variables. 5. The game is going to be 2d, or text based. There are a few things I would need would need help deciding 1. Should I make the game assets ( graphics, sound or parser if I decide on a text game ) before the flight? 2. Need major help in deciding what kind of game to make I said original, but it does not have to be my idea. 3. I need a sanity check. I have never attempted anything like this before and I am not sure its even possible (no internet access to research or look for help, no books etc) but I figured it would make those 3 hours fly by which is my main goal. Your thoughts?

Movie/Film Score Music

13 August 2008 - 11:05 AM

I have never really paid attention to movie music scores , but recently I found that I can concentrate and actually focus on programming when I loop certain scores.2 of my favorites being Ready Steady Go, Lux Aeterna. I looped Lux Aeterna and programmed for 6 hours straight, no alt tabbing to surf , no TV only broke my concentration once when I had to use the bathroom. Any recommendations? I would like to build a library

WTF XP sp2 nightmare

09 August 2008 - 12:11 PM

I have 4 PCs running different OSes , 2 linux machinces , 1 fre BSD , 1 OpenBSD. I got real currious about XNA and xbox 360 games so I decided to install xp on one of my linux machines. I bought a new hard drive and installed it into one of the Linux the PC. I disconnect the PC from the web , install xp with SP2) and all the drivers. Install zonealarm and avg ( latest versions I downloaded before starting this ). I connected the PC to my LAN (the other 3 machines where off and I am behind a hardware fireware btw) and updated my antivirus software and the boom I had a virus on my PC. WTF (both AVG and Norton were set off by the virus )? After all the precautions I took? How am I supposed to trust this machine? All I wanted to do was mess around with XNA and Xbox games now I do not know if I can trust this machine. I am not interested in an OS war over this , I really dont care what os I use (F.Y.I used everything from a zx spectrum , BBC micro , commdore 64 , BBC micro , atari ST , Amiga , dos , windows linux, BEOS ) an OS is just a tool as far as I am concerned. WTF this is supposed to be a clean install. Any thoughts as to what I could have done differently? Im stoked about the idea of distributing my xbox box games BTW.
