[web] Frustrations for JAVA & C++ developer working with Flash/FLEX

I've recently been asked by my employer to work on a prototype of a game concept in Flash. I am finding Action Script an extremely frustrating programming language after using JAVA and C++ for years. It feels like a step backwards and an unfinished programming language. Many things I would have thought obvious are missing from the language and the support libraries. I also find the FlashDevelop IDE I am using very unstable, it crashes at least 5 times a day and sometimes locks the Flash Player. It is also has an irritating lack of features and after using Eclipse and Visual Studio for years it makes me feel very unproductive. Does anyone have any advice for programmers who are used to coding in C++ and JAVA and are now being forced to use something as inadequate as ActionScript 3?

J2ME: N80, N90 352x416 resolution - any way to scale things up?

Hi Does anyone know a way to scale a 240x320 (QVGA) resolution J2ME application up to fit on these huge screens? I have heard rumors that it is possible, but [google] gives conflicting results. These huge screens are a real pain to deal with. Why do these manufactrer love making developers lives harder? Thanks

DirectX 7: Drawing TTF Fonts

Hi, I am wondering if anyone can point me to a source of information regarding drawing TTF fonts in DirectX 7. There seems to be few examples when searching Google and the DirectX 7 API Documentation has no useful examples. I cannot use a later version of DirectX. I have been using GDI to draw the font's over the DirectX window, but it would appear not to be working a certain graphics cards. I am assuming I have to create a vetex array or something similar of the glyphs in the font. I have very little experience with DirectX. Thanks.
