Can someone recommend a free/cheap 2D fantasy art package?

I'm looking to make a 2D fantasy platformer, something similar to Rogue Legacy, and I'm looking for an art package for it. This is just a fun little project, so I'm not looking to spend a lot of money, though a little cost is okay.

 

I'm looking for just the basics: character sprites, tiles, effects, etc. I really like the look of this:

It's just incomplete for what I need.

 

Can anyone make a recommendation for something free/cheap that will cover the basics of a 2D fantasy platformer?

Looking for procedural 3D mesh generation resources

I'm looking to do some procedural 3D mesh generation. Specifically at the moment, I'm trying to generate some walls with windows cut out of them (basically cubes with smaller cubes cut out of them), but I'll eventually want to generate other things as well. I'm familiar with the concepts of mesh generation, but not algorithms to create 3D meshes beyond simple shapes (cubes, spheres, etc.). Can somebody point me in the right direction to learn how to procedural generate non-trivial (though also non-complex, I'm not looking to get too fancy here) 3D meshes?

Rift launches on March 1st, and I'd like to hear what everyone thinks of it. What has you interested/disinterested, are you planning on picking it up, and if you're a beta tester, what do you like and what do you dislike.

As for myself, I ran in the last beta event and thoroughly enjoyed the game, but I will say it's incredibly like WoW. I loved WoW, and was looking for a new MMO of the same caliber (though not necessarily one so similar), so I'm pretty pleased, especially with how polished the game is for still being in beta. Certainly not a WoW killer (I don't think that's there goal, anyway), but definitely already a really great game. Here is a review of my experiences in beta 4 up on my blog, if anyone's interested in my opinion of the game in much greater detail.

So whether you've played Rift or not, are looking forward to it or think it's over-hyped (or haven't even heard of it), what do you think?

system() crashes windows service without exception

I have a C++ windows service that makes a call to system() to shell out a command to a C# app that I wrote. Usually, this works fine, but sometimes, that call crashes the service, apparently without an exception. Basically, I'm doing this:

Log("Before");

system(myCommand);

Log("After");
}
catch (...)
{
Log("Unhandled exception!");
}





When it crashes, all I see in my log file is "Before". No after, no unhandled exception. The service just dies quietly, providing me no information.

I've also written out the commands, and if I copy one of the commands that crashes the service into the command line, it runs just fine.

So, I have two questions:

1. How can I get some information on what is causing the system function (and thus my entire service) to crash?

2. What's an alternative to system() that will work for a C++ windows service? All it has to do is execute a simple, local command with a single argument.

C++ DLL unresolved external errors

I'm trying to get SQLite to load from a DLL in a C++ project, but when I compile I get these errors:

error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _sqlite3_exec referenced in function _main

error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _sqlite3_open referenced in function _main

fatal error LNK1120: 2 unresolved externals

I downloaded SQLiteDLL-3 from the download page, extracted its contents (a DLL and a .h file), and ran lib.exe on it to produce a .lib file. I then set the directory containing the .lib and the .dll files to be an Additional Library Directory, in the project settings, under Linker >> General. Then I downloaded SQLiteSource-3 from the download page, and extracted the SQLite3.h file to the directory with the .Lib and .DLL files, and added that directory as an Additional Include Directory under C/C++ >> General. I added #include to my main file, and then added sqlite3.lib as an Additional Dependency in Linker >> Input.

Basically, I did everything in this post, but something still isn't right. Can anyone help me out with this?
