Point me to an old thread

08 September 2010 - 11:55 PM

There was a thread about randomness tests. Where someone was testing the correlation between generated random numbers looking for anomalies in pictures like this:

I generated this image the way I think they were made, but this sample might deviate from those posted in the thread I'm looking for. The images there were also yellow or orange I think. The thread is maybe over a year old. I have already tried google and google image search but couldn't find it. Has anyone a link to that thread? Or does anyone now what that "correlation test" is called?

[web] Please help me finding a suitable web host.

18 January 2010 - 10:09 AM

Until now I have used free services like wordpress.com, wikispaces.com, offers from my University and Institute I'm working at. But all are not Ideal for my current needs. I want to have everything, that is my professional homepage, my personal homepage, e-mails, code (using git), backup (~2 GB), wikis and forums for different lecture (LaTeX is a must) and projects at one place. I don't need a game server or something like that. I tried goggling for web hosting but there are many offers and all those reviews and top-10 lists do not look reliable to me. I need an unproblematic web host, without any hidden costs. Adding content and management should be as easy as possible. If it matters I'm leaving in Germany. What price range is realistic? What should I pay attention to when comparing the offers and looking for the right one? Do you know any web host you can recommend me?

Help Wanted Forum

26 December 2009 - 11:12 AM

In the new version of the site I want to suggest having some king of webform instead of the simple text editor for the help wanted forum. This way posts get formated in proper way. Specially when it comes to MMO projects I would like to see all fields marked as required, poster should have to answer also the inconvenient questions like How long are you working on this project: ______ Do you have a design document? yes[ ] no[ ] Do you have a dedicated server? yes[ ] no[ ] Do you have a playable demo? yes[ ] no[ ] Do you have a publisher? yes[ ] no[ ] Post links to finished projects: 1)_____________ 2)_____________ Level of Education College/University: _______ Concentration: ______ I know that rarely someone is going to give positive answer to those questions but on the one hand posters might get an idea of what they are missing to attract people and on the other hand outstanding projects can be marked or made sticky.

Qt Creator: New IDE and More

20 April 2009 - 10:35 PM

Here is the link: Qt Development Tools I don't know how new this tool is but I have never see someone here recommend it in one of those IDE discussions. I have just installed it and I'm really impressed. It comes with built in debugger, help viewer and even with a GUI layout and forms designer. The IDE is very responsive (unlike Eclipse and NetBeans) and Code completion works seamlessly so far. Nokia has done a good job here. The new version of QT has also full OpenGL support and can be used for in game QUI, text rendering and input handling.

function pointer to template function (c++)

29 December 2008 - 12:04 AM

Consider the following code:
template<class oiter_t>
size_t curl_write(void *ptr, size_t size, size_t nmemb, void *data) {
    oiter_t oiter = *static_cast<oiter_t*> (data);
    const char* ch_ptr = static_cast<const char*> (ptr);
    std::copy(ch_ptr, ch_ptr + size * nmemb, oiter);
    return nmemb;
template<class oiter_t>
void download(std::string url, oiter_t oiter) {
    curl_easy_setopt(curl, CURLOPT_WRITEFUNCTION, &curl_write<oiter_t>);
where oiter is an output iterator. As you can see I have to set a callback function curl_write at some point in the download function. That line produces a compilation error:
error: address of overloaded function with no contextual type information
I have solved the problem by wrapping both function in a template<class oiter_t> class, but I would like to know whether it is possible to get a function pointer to curl_write<oiter_t>.
