I for one have. There are huge asian grocery stores here and there across the united states (e.g. Lotte Plaza) and inside one, near where I live, has a side sushi bar that also sells the fish alone in packaged blocks. It's a lot of work, and you don't end up saving much money so you might as well just go to a restaurant.
With that said, never buy from any other place intended for it to be cooked.
As a side note, frozen pre-barbecued eel which you can even recook has an incredibly good value of around 20-to-1 or more compared to the price at a restaurant. Though it's easy to get tired of eating it.

That's "nigiri". Temakizushi is the rice with contents wrapped in nori in the shape of an ice-cream cone. I for one have never had temakizushi before.
