Since weight is measured in kilograms, then shouldn't this story be about how everything except the standard kilogram got heavier: http://www.rte.ie/news/2011/0124/kilogram.html
Reminds me of Futurama, and how, when the speed of light wasn't fast enough, scientists simply changed the value, in order to make everything move faster.
Also, weight's measured in newtons, or pounds. Mass is measured in Kg.
