Journal of Mak > The Great Journey Begins

Posted on 06 October 2016 - 12:36 PM

In part due to my long term absence from these hallowed halls, and in part because hopefully starting this blog series will force me to keep up the development momentum :) I give you my first attempt to do some 'playing of the game' in Dominium at long last... warts and all... (Lifted directly from http://dominium.maksw.com/2016/10/06/the-great-journ...

Journal of Mak > Weekly Roundup #54(ish)

Posted on 15 November 2015 - 02:30 PM

Alas I’ve missed the past month of weekly roundups – though have dropped some posts to keep things ticking along, so a no score draw there!
I’m having a bit of a rant in this post – as I’m entirely fed up with this country’s (the UK) cowcrap about supporting the games industry.
Of late, I’ve been quietly sniffing about two of the ‘wonderful’ schemes...

Journal of Mak > Polylux Part Ducks

Posted on 09 November 2015 - 12:30 PM

Sorry, couldn’t resist it http://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/72x72/1f609.png
Here I conclude (for now) the work being done on the Polylux Lighting System – as it’s nearly production ready, and fairly efficient as it stands.
Enjoy the video blog!

Journal of Mak > Running well behind the curve... but with lots of lights!

Posted on 09 November 2015 - 12:07 PM

It's about time for another journal entry methinks http://public.gamedev5.net//public/style_emoticons/default/smile.png

Of late I've been of a mind to do some of the 'eye candy' I want to get working in Dominium, for special effects et al. I've lond had in mind a solution for the 'multiple light source' problem, especially with shaders in mind.

Now, I...

Journal of Mak > A little 'Flare'...

Posted on 18 October 2015 - 01:01 PM

Ah dear - another disappointingly huge gap since my last journal post I'm afraid! However, work progresses on the leviathan game project that is Dominium.

I've been tinkering mostly with all the behind-the-scenes stuff that makes a game tick. So for a brain-break, I turned to some eye candy :)

In my head (the perfect programming location where nothing...

Journal of Mak > Spawn Point : Yet Another Planetary Rendering System

Posted on 03 September 2014 - 11:40 AM

I've long put this off, because if I ever got to integrating Planetary Landings into Dominium, I wanted to do it well and do it 'full on'... (flora, fauna, cities, people, all procedurally crafted). But after two years of spare-time work on the 'behemoth' project... I can no longer resist having a play at least!

There's nothing 'new' here to those who tr...

Journal of Mak > Building the Heavens...

Posted on 08 August 2014 - 01:28 PM

An excerpt from my latest blog post ...

Work has progressed this week on the Celestial Body rendering – I’ve resolved the issues reported in the last post and largely wrapped it up for now. I’ve also obtained a few more high res textures to use as placeholders to extend the visual variety as I hop around the galaxy. I’ve added some renders to the media...

Journal of Mak > Whoa - Out of the Shadows, literally...

Posted on 18 July 2014 - 10:21 AM

Whoa indeed - I can't believe it's been this long since my last Journal here... I seem to get no time to update anything beyond my own blog these days. Every single minute is spent 'dev-ing'...

Anyway - I thought I'd drop by and throw in my attempts at self-shadowing so far in Dominium. This is actually progress from two weeks ago, I'm having fun trying...

Journal of Mak > Dominion is Live on Kickstarter, Again!

Posted on 03 May 2013 - 05:40 PM

The day is finally here - and we've pushed the button - our space-combat epic is back on Kickstarter and seeking funding once again!http://kck.st/139nQKu Thanks in advance to anyone who has a mind to back us this time around http://public.gamedev5.net//public/style_emoticons/default/smile.png

Journal of Mak > May the 4th, Be With Us - on Kickstarter!

Posted on 30 April 2013 - 01:10 PM

The time has come folks… after some great feedback on the new pitch, we’re ready to go on our publication date of   00:00  on   May the 4th !  Our hope is that we can ask everyone who is interested in backing us to back us on the same launch day! If we can get some momentum going on day one, it will help bump us up on the visibility list on Kickstarter  a...

Journal of Mak > Lens Flares, Stars, and Pretty Mode

Posted on 03 March 2013 - 09:35 AM

[Edit : I would have IOTD'd this - but it refuses to let me add one, saying I don't have permission - maybe a bug on the site guys?]I've been plugging away at Dominion quietly in the background, whenever I can, in order to sort out the trailer we'll be doing for the new pitch. One of the (many) visual issues I have been facing with using "prototype" work t...

Journal of Mak > Kickstarter Faith

Posted on 13 December 2012 - 06:21 AM

To drag my previous journal entry on a bit - I have to say I'm really and pleasantly taken aback by the belief/faith shown by the backers. I've even had feedback from potential backers who have provided helpful suggestions which might persuade them to back in the future, which we've taken on board - the feedback has generally been great, so...

Journal of Mak > Planning to fail... ?

Posted on 08 December 2012 - 04:08 PM

So, with no media interest what-so-ever, and no attainable way to get any, no social network to leverage, and a Press Release that may as well have been dropped into a Black Hole, it looks like trying to achieve our funding target on Kickstarter is doomed to fail.

There is no bitterness there, far from it. I have never underestimated Marketing and PR, but...

Journal of Mak > Dominion - Praying for the grace of Kickstarter

Posted on 24 November 2012 - 09:53 AM

Having spent the last couple of years "out" of the games industry doing iOS contracting - trying to get into a position where I can have a crack at my own products... during this time I've been watching Kickstarter - trying to figure out how to wangle an account to allow funds to be drawn from the US based site (which they would allow, but...
