I got this idea for a subforum
title- "Ideas"
description- "If you have any idea for game development issues share it with others here"
Example of one of mine 2 cents:

"Often, in game designing, a designer needs to place lights into scene. Lights directivity is, if managed well, donating extremely to atmosphere and look of scene. But often, theese lights are point lights and a side effect of them is illuminating areas the designer does not mean to illuminate. But now realize...

Don't forget the little people

EDIT: The below was written under the assumption others were having the same difficulties with the rating system I did. Now that I see other wise, the post sums up to this: I suggest arbitrary topics appear on the GDNet home page to inspire contributions. You can skip the TL;DR, but it will be left for reference.

I am combining a comment, suggestion and idea. My apologies in advance if this has been done somewhere I didn't notice before.

So what's the deal?

I feel the forum rating system is bu...

A Voluntary GDnet?

Is it possible for the whole GDnet community to work on a free voluntary spare time "project" like a mini 2d game for the example?

I'm just curious if Its possible to create a free project that anyone could work on- off and on or for an easy small time span of their spare time.

(Tried to start one but didn't go well, as it is meant to be a casual and free-form freeware/shareware deal, with no binding contracts. That's beside the point though.)

Thank You...(for your reply, I won'...

My project

However, none of the staff memberes are active now. I think only superpig is, and he's not responding.

So the question is simple: How do I contact Gamedev staff? Who IS Gamedev staff now? I mean, who runs the site when all the founders and owners are continuously offline?...

PROVOKING the MASSES: About Help Wanted...

Hi, Everyone!

These questions here have popped up for the reason that I keep seeing people misuse/mistreating the help/hiring sub-forums. I'm asking these questions in order to try and help improve the Help/Hiring sub forum:

How many of you use the Help/Hiring threads?

How many of you dedicate to a single group and project?

How many can say they are successful?

How many of you take on more than one project at a time? (In which you maybe shouldn't. In the companies I worked, having m...

Future of the forum system?

I was wondering if gamedev.net has ever considering changing to a different forum system. As it is now, it is difficult to use some features that are clearly marked on other forums, such as clickable links to other sites. Even now, I don't know how to create them, but I know it is possible since other people create them (maybe this could be something that lower-post-count users don't have access to?). And while it looks like I have not been here long, I have been around since about 2002 under several u...

GDNET books

Is it something with me?
I just can't seem to find the companion's website for the Beginning Game Programming: a gamedev.net collection.

Is it sorta of hide and seek webgame? :D

What I would like to see is more workshops like that so this site could be more beginner friendly. You have the for beginners spot, but it doesn't really help learn much programming. I just thought it would be nice and it would probably bring more people in to have more workshops like this so the professionals, intermediates, and beginners could all connect....

Email notification/subscriptions suggestions

Hi! I wonder about a few things. One thing is that you can subscribe to threads you start, by checking the box "Check here to be notified by email whenever someone replies to your topic", which is great. But is there any way to turn on email notification for already existing threads?

And also, can you in some way turn on some option "subscribe me to threads I post in automatically"?

This would be really awesome!

Also in many forums you just get a message for the first unread post, the...

Having problems with this forum

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this, but I could not find any site feedback/support forum, and my question relates directly to the .NET forum.

Where are all the posts? The top page says there are 28,000+ posts here, but I only see about 15 threads or so. Also, there was a thread that I responded to about 2 or 3 hours ago that I now cannot find. Yesterday, I actually came into this forum, and saw a full page of threads and more pages for just a moment until the page "popped" back into this sho...

i can edit other users posts??

maybe this is a huge error or glitch, but there is an edit button on other persons posts.

there should be a page with a list of all the gamedev.net collection series books. I'm trying to find all the books in a single place but I couldn't.

When I look at his posts, e.g. in this thread, I don't see them anymore.

Now I can't decide whether he has deleted all his posts, or if I just can't see them because I can't configure the minimum rating treshold to be negative. But under the assumption that deleted post won't be listed here, it must be his negative rating.

In case I missed something, just slap the bitch.

Either way, if it's not a bug, I hereby propose an unlimited treshold, which al...
