One common challenge when having a city environment is having enough details in the city scene (buildings, streets, highways) so that the environment looks ok for closeups (or to be even recognized as a city) but does not kill your perf or application. I found this one good 3d city model with only 37K polygons...looks very promising for a game engine. Check out the images and if you happen to have used it before, let me know what you think.
