Due to our new found [s]fame [/s]tiny community of players, we've decided to put the afterburners on all of the improvement projects we had scheduled for UPSAT. Some of this you have already seen when we released the Version 1.1 update last week which featured some minor bug fixes, but I'm here to tell you that, "You ain't seen nothin' yet!"
Throughout the past couple of weeks, Ryan and I have had many meetings and brainstorming sessions to come up with all the improvements we'd like to see implemented. The first major improvement will be a developer notification system. We want to be able to communicate with you about promotions, sales, upcoming updates, etc from right within the game, so we're working on something that will allow us to do so easily. The second major improvement is going to be the addition of several language settings from within the options menu. I'm developing a list of all the text we currently use in game and we'll be translating it into Spanish and German to start. A huge, "Thank You!" goes out to one of our Twitter followers @kurtextrem for helping us with the German translation. We're working hard right now to get these out to you by late next week with a Version 1.2 update.
The big huge mega supremo news, however, is that we have a whole mess of mini-games to bring your way! We've been planning this for a while, but we finally buckled down and came up with a list of around 50 games that we're going to be rolling out in the coming months. With game titles like "Abduct the Cow" and "Launch the Human Cannon" you can bet they're going to be zany and a ton of fun to play! With this, we're also going to be implementing a game unlocking mechanism and a screen to let you toggle the games on and off. We figure the unlocking system will give you some added incentive to keep playing and the ability to toggle will give you the freedom to only play the games you love! Your scores will only count on the leaderboards if all available games are on, however.
Since [s]we can't decide [/s]it's going to take us a bit of time to get all these games implemented, we've organized them into several different themes that each contain one type of mini-game (tap, tap-tap, swipe, drag, shake) and we'd like YOUR help in deciding which games you want to see first. We've set up a poll with three of the themes that we like most and the winner will have its mini-games launched around June 22[sup]nd[/sup] with the Version 2.0 update! To keep it a bit mysterious, we won't tell you EXACTLY what each game entails, but here's the titles we've decided to go with for each theme.
A few days ago we released our first update, Version 1.1. We originally decided to do it because we noticed that our Twitter link was broken since we switched our account name to @MidnightTangent, but then decided to actually incorporate some gameplay changes as well. The 2 biggest changes we made were to speed up the first level by 1 second and to make the basketball spawn in a random location on the slam dunk game. People had told us that the first levels took too long to get through and we thought that just pulling the basketball straight down every time was a little bit boring.
Abduct The Cow!
Who took your cow?
Shake them off!
25c to Continue
Shake the Dice
Deal Em' Out
VOTE VOTE VOTE: http://poll.fm/3qx4a
We'll leave the voting open through the weekend and then open the next round once Version 2.0 is live. So be sure to cast your votes now and if you're feeling really generous help us spread the word!
Some other changes we've incorporated have been as a direct result of the "Because We May" sale that is going on this week. We've seen a dramatic increase in sales in just a few days and we knew we wanted to show these people that we're listening and constantly making improvements. To do this we made a big change to how OpenFeint checks for achievements to get an increase in performance. We also fixed a bug in which the offline status notification was repeatedly displayed when a user was playing and not connected to the internet. The most noticeable change we made, however, is probably the addition of a screen to ask the user to review UPSAT on google play after 150 games.
Here's a pic of that screen:
We think this will not only help improve the number of reviews on Google Play, but also show that we care about our players experience and want to make it better any way possible. As an example, one of our players commented that they wished we added support for native German speakers. As we were looking into this, the user contacted us via Twitter and offered to do the translation for us so that it could be better than Google Translate. We hope to have many more of these interactions!
If you'd like to check out UPSAT: You Probably Suck At This you can get it on sale for $0.99 until June 1st here: Google Play
