I ordered the parts for my new coputer, and they should be here on Thursday, which is pretty sweet. However I would like to share with you the first image for Project: Delphi. Check it out:
I need to get a new one, le sigh. This is going to push back my timetables a little. If I get a call back from the university about the position I was interviewed for, I'm ordering the parts immediately. Here's to hopin'!
I'm about 75% through the story and script right now on Project: Delphi. Things are looking fairly good and I've even gotten some fairly early concept art from my friend and coworker/artist. I plan on finishing the script late next week, and I may post the first five mission/chapters here for community view. In a week or so I will start on the actual program design, which is truly going to be a daunting task, but I'm up for it.
In other news I've been considering returning to school to get a degree in computer science to complement my degree in English. The university I will be applying to offers both a B.A. and B.S. program, and I'm having trouble deciding which one to pursue. I started a thread about it, so feel free to comment here with your thoughts or suggestions. You could also check my post history and find the thread I made about the degree question.
I was checking the lyrics to a musical called Avenue Q and I found these lyrics that were humerous considering my current unemployment situation.
What Do You Do with a B.A. in English?
What do you do with a B.A. in English,
What is my life going to be?
Four years of college and plenty of knowledge,
Have earned me this useless degree.
I can't pay the bills yet,
'Cause I have no skills yet,
The world is a big scary place.
But somehow I can't shake,
The feeling I might make,
To the human race.
Basically I've been fleshing out the script to "Project: Delphi" lately. It's coming out very well, and at a good pace. The only downside I think I'm having is that I'm explaining too much of the technical side of things, and not being entertaining enough. I'll make sure to show it to some people when I finish some more done. I'm about 15% done now. Can't wait to start designing the game engine...
......and six more weeks of winter.
I hate the cold.
Lately I've just been working on assembling and organizing the development team for my project. Right now I've only got me (programmer), and artist, and a music guy. I'm hoping to increase those numbers soon though.
Other things I'm working on, is hammering out the details of the game's story. Hopefully that will be done in a couple of weeks.
...I hate groundhogs.
Major things that have happened to my current project. I changed the name to "Project: Delphi" in the hopes that Borland would be less likely to sue my ass.
I think now I can reveal the actual premise of the game. Project: Delphi is going to be a turn based strategy game. But instead of normal battles taking place in a fantasy land, this game is going to take place in cyberspace. Delphi is an acronym which stands for Delusive Personal Hacking Interface. Basically it makes hacking look like cyber combat, instead of just a bunch of boring commands and stuff.
The player controls his avatar, and the avatars of their hacking squad as they accomplish missions to further along the game's plot.
In personal news, still no job yet. Turned down a part-time position though. Please hire me, I rule...and stuff.
Well I showed my partner the completed design document and he's all for making project "Del-phi." As soon as I can get some more details fleshed out (non-design stuff).
In other news, my job hunt is going so-so. Lots of leads, little return. I'm sure something worthy of my time will show up. But the main problem is World of Warcraft...and me playing way too much of it. I need someone to slap me if I play more than 2 hours a day, because I really should doing something productive like getting a job or programming...speaking of which...
Well I've been playing a lot of World of Warcraft...it's not the most innovative MMO around, but it's just plain fun. I figured I'd write a quick journal entry since the servers are down.
I've dubbed the name of my next project "Delphi" which is an acronym for something. I'm still working on the design document, but that is progressing a bit slower than I wanted to. The project seems to be getting a lot bigger too as time goes on. This slightly worries me. Tuss Toss was a challenge enough, but I think with the proper planning and organization I can avoid the bad program design I had with Tuss Toss.
Well I finally finished college yesterday. It's pretty depressing now that I have to get a real job. Unfortunately, having only a B.A. in English isn't going to really land me a job in game development. If anyone wants to hire me though, feel free!
I plan to fully start job hunting after the new year. I hope the Christmas gift money and graduation gifts hold me till then, needless to say I see some minimum payments being sent to my credit cards for the next month or so :-p.
I already have a pretty solid idea for my next project. At it's core it will be a turn based strategy game, which I need to start making some rules for. The question though is what language/API to use. I really have enjoyed using C# and Managed DirectX, and I think I'm leaning heavily towards that way. Naysayers can feel free to comment to this entry in their vain efforts to sway me.
Well, I just figured I'd drop a post, as I've just completed my first full game. I've uploaded it to the showcase, in case anyone is actually reading this and wants to check it out. I wish I had more time to write a full entry, but with finals in full swing and graduation right around the corner, I'm going to have to cut it short. I've got some ideas brainstorming for my next project, and I hope to be writing a design document soon. Until next time kiddies,
