About this blog

Just a little journal to give updates on my programming skills and post some code snippets.

Wow...

Well, an eventful couple of weeks, infact...I've gone and made a list for you:

- Rivaled Fate V2 gets hacked due to a PHP security flaw
- Its forums get trolled by the GNAA (Google it)
- I get concussed and lose one tooth (I'll explain later on)
- I lose my best friend due to him being a complete and utter ass

So...yeah. Not great.

As for the concussion plus rock thing, if I were to make it into a mathematical equation it would be something like this:

Face + Rock = Concussion - 1 tooth.

How was I supposed to know that you weren't meant to slide on the wet rocks?
Anyway that's making me very irratable so hopefully it'll piss off soon.

Things may be looking up though, as this Sunday I'm going down to the Southbank of London to have a mini birthday party (22nd August is the actual date). I'll be starting by meeting up with an online mate from Glasgow (not a paedophile) then having a quick Parkour jam with him and some other peeps, after that I go eat lunch with my parents, then spend the rest of the afternoon in Namco Station xD.

Programming news: starting to get back into it, realising how much of a good head start it would be for me to get into a course etc. etc.

Check back soon, from the one and only Kudu =)

YAY!!!

I got my new banner today thanks to Blaze, I absolutely love it so I'm gonna say thank you here =). I'm still waiting for Rivaled Fate, the private beta should be out any day now Dofus. It's a pretty amazing game considering it looks like it's solely made in actionscript and flash.

Recently I haven't had the motivation to do any programming...although I really want to. I'm hoping it will come back soon, anyway; when it does, you'll hear from me :P it may be tomorrow, it may be next week, but I'll be back!

Now, anyone up for making me an avatar? :P

Not entirely gaming related.

Well, yesterday was a slightly unreal experience. I went to the Larmer Tree Festival which is about an hours drive from my house, when we got there it was completely and utterly boiling, and guess what...WATER SHORTAGE!!! Thank god my parents had brought a couple of bottles. The first band we saw were called Last Night's Fun, they were absolutely superb, even though folk music isn't exactly my thing =P. The lead singer was a really funny, witty guy aswell.

Anyway, as soon as the hottest part of the day was over I decided to have a look around, I found two other 13 year olds busking for some lunch by doing some pretty uber diabolo tricks, I decided to watch for a bit (I didn't pay anything =D) Then got talking, it turns out his parents have a stall there every year so he had been at the festival for the whole weekend. After a while I decided to show them my secret move; a back somersault (heheh) they soon got me to join in and by the end of the day, I'd made some great friends (along with a 17 year old and an 18 year old (both potheads >_
One guy we were busking from was a bit out of it though...I did my backflip, front flip and side flip, then he rambled on for the next 15 mins about how I'm 20 times better than ANYONE in the Olympics...it was...interesting. If any of you want a vid of my ubor haxxor skeelz, feel free to ask =)

Anyway, onto gaming related news; while sitting here waiting for the Beta release of Rivaled Fate (it should be any minute now) I decided to revise my code a bit, here's the new code:

//Testing what I learnt in Chapter 1.

#include
#include

using namespace std;

enum armour {LEATHER = 10, CHAINMAIL = 20, PLATEMAIL = 40};
armour myArmour = LEATHER;

int main()
{
const int MAX_ITEMS = 10;
string inventory[MAX_ITEMS];

int numItems = 0;
inventory[numItems++] = "myArmour";

cout "Battle Aftermath.\n\n";

const int UNDEAD_EXP = 25;
int undeadKilled = 7;
int undeadPoints = UNDEAD_EXP * undeadKilled;
cout "Undead Points: " ".\n";
cout "Congratulations, you have slain " " undead beasts and gained " " Experience points!" "\n\n";

const int HUMAN_EXP = 10;
int humansKilled = 16;
int humanPoints = HUMAN_EXP * humansKilled;
cout "Human Points: " cout "Congratulations, you have slain " " human gladiators and gained " " Experience points!" "\n\n";

const int ALLIES_EXP = -10;
int alliesKilled = 4;
int alliesPoints = ALLIES_EXP * alliesKilled;
cout "Allies Points: " cout "Although you battled well for your team, " " members were brutally massacred, putting a burden of " " experience on your team..." "\n\n";

int totalPoints = undeadPoints + humanPoints + alliesPoints;

if (totalPoints > 20)
cout "You have earnt the right to a new set of armour.\n" cout "1 - I'll keep my armour thanks.\n";
cout "2 - I'll upgrade to Chainmail please! (" " points)\n";
cout "3 - I'll upgrade to Platemail please! (" " points)\n";

int choice;
cout "Choice: ";
cin >> choice;

switch (choice)
{
case 1:
cout "You have chosen to keep your current armour.\n";
break;
case 2:
cout "You have chosen to upgrade to Chainmail!\n";
break;
case 3:
cout "You have chosen to upgrade to Platemail!\n";
break;
default:
cout "Please choose a number from 1-3\n";
}
else
cout "Sorry, you have not earnt enough points to buy a new set of armour.\n";

cin.get();
}

I'm getting a parse error for else, and can't see what it is, any help please?

More updates soon, bye!

edit: oh and I realise that I've done the inventory bit wrong but I think I know how to fix it, it's just the else code that I'm stuck on, later on today I'll make it so that it takes away my leather armour and replaces it with whichever the user chooses.

edit 2: added the bit about the crazy guy.

Basic code.

Well at the end of each chapter of Beginning C++ Game Programming, I was hoping to do a largish piece of code with everything I learnt in the chapter included, I managed this for Chapter 1 but couldn't be assed for 2, I'm now half way through 3.

To make up for this, and to check that I can still remember all the correct syntax, I'm going to be creating some code and posting it here, for you to critisize at your own will =D.

Maybe if I have enough time, and schoolwork doesn't get in the way I'll create one large program combining all 3 pieces of code. This might be an idea for the beginning of the summer hols, and who knows, by September I may actually be decent at programming and have a bit of respect on these here boards!

I guess I may aswell post the Chapter 1 code here, this is all created by me, and is not a finished piece of code. Just a showcase of my progress:

//Testing what I learnt in Chapter 1.

#include
using namespace std;

int main()
{
cout
const int UNDEAD_EXP = 25;
int undeadKilled = 7;
int undeadPoints = UNDEAD_EXP * undeadKilled;
cout cout
const int HUMAN_EXP = 10;
int humansKilled = 16;
int humanPoints = HUMAN_EXP * humansKilled;
cout cout
const int ALLIES_EXP = -10;
int alliesKilled = 4;
int alliesPoints = ALLIES_EXP * alliesKilled;
cout cout
int totalPoints = undeadPoints + humanPoints + alliesPoints;

enum armour {LEATHER = 10, CHAINMAIL = 20, PLATEMAIL = 40};
armour myArmour = LEATHER;

cout cout cout cout
int choice;
cout cin >> choice;

switch (choice)
{
case 1:
cout break;
case 2:
cout break;
case 3:
cout break;
default:
cout }

return 0;
}

A quick hello!

Right...well I'm not sure if I actually need the benefits of a GDNet+ account, but it makes me feel special anyway =).

I guess I should start by introducing myself, I'm Liam Gallagher, a 13 year old spotty, moody type of guy, and live in Dorset, England; there's not exactly an abundance of game developers down here so I guessed that I'd come to you lot for some help!

You'll probably be seeing me around the beginners board a bit, as I've only started learning C++ a week ago. I've been going at my own pace making sure I'm taking everything in and not skipping anything. I'm reading Beginning C++ Game Programming by Michael Dawson at the moment, and will probably post my progression and code snippets up here once I'm a bit more experienced.

Anyway, I'm off to take a look around the site, if anybody checks this, could you tell me why I can't change the board theme in my CP? It just tells me to subscribe (which I have...)

edit: ah woot, it's letting me now.

Cheers, check back soon.
