Legendary Assassin KAL- free to play

A mobile project that took me 2 years to develop but it was developed in between projects so the exact development time is unknown. This was my first mobile project that I started but not my first one to be published on the Play Store. Play it here – https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Choo5dy.android5 The game went through a make-over, from semi-realistic to stylish low poly. You can see the differences below. The new one and the old one below. The new one is better in many ways such as the colors look brighter and less laggy. Also much less work to do since it is low poly, the environments can be modeled quickly. Right now, I am focusing on marketing and promoting this game as much as I can. Recently I saw one developer who wrote 500-600 emails for his mobile game which makes me realized that I didn’t really do enough. Hopefully it will pay off in the end. 2D and mobile

My first experiment on 2d inside Unity. So far, I am really liking the process of it because it just takes less time and effort to make a scene compare to building it in 3d. This whole scene above excluding the character and the celling lamp is all build from photos and textures. So a month forward, I am already making 2 2d games for android and web. One is going to be episodic while the one is going to be a short point and click horror game. I may be going for more mobile games in future because Steam is really getting more and more uncertain for the average indie games. For my 3d games such as Noosphere, I am taking it slowly because I am missing the right ideas and design for the game. Then, There Is No Tomorrow is going to release very soon in late November or early December 2019!

Multiple Projects

Right now I have 3 game projects is in development. One of them is ‘There Is No Tomorrow’ which is going to be published soon hopefully. While the other 2 projects are still in early to mid development stage. Actually recently I started ANOTHER project for mobile but now I am pausing the development till I finished ‘There Is No Tomorrow’. This one week which I was handling 4 game projects, my mind is becoming more confusing and over-active, I don’t feel good at all. So I guess that my limit is 3 projects and no more. Just yesterday, I released ‘Noosphere’ on Steam. The actual release is in 2020. This is a first person horror game which is actually my first 3d first person game. New ways to finding references

Found out about this wonderful website known as Sketchfab which you can view the 3d models in a 3d live space. It isn’t something exactly new but the some of the models on Sketchfab are very detailed because they are using photogrammetry to scan real objects into 3d models. In the past I will be using pictures from the internet to help with my modelling but sketchfab just allows me to see the reference in 3d space. It is just much better than looking at flat 2d images. There’s also the option to view in VR which i will try it later on. Too much Action games

So far, several of my games projects are all action games such as ‘Starboost EX‘, ‘There is no tomorrow‘, ‘All of ZHEM’ & ‘Legend of the assassin’. For my future games, I am planning to focus on non-action types such as puzzle & story driven creative games. I learned that making action games is really not easy & time consuming because those games depend heavily on the game mechanics. It is extremely easy to get lots of bugs, for example if you jump during a attack, you will need to disable the attack before you jump and sometimes multiple weird bugs will appear. The programming will get heavier and heavier eventually. I still have a idea for one action game but I am going to leave it to the future. Right now I am learning more on making bigger world games and I still have to finish up my projects before taking up new ones.. Devlog videos is on!

So I started making devlog videos for my youtube and Patreon. So far I have several videos already recorded and available for viewing on my Patreon page before setting them to public on youtube. This is something that I can do since I am always working on some projects all the time. Recording while working on the game does take some time to get familiar with. One of my reasons for starting this is to get people to join my Patreon. I used to have a few patrons (back then I was making a animated series) but right now it is back to zero. Hopefully in February, I can get a few supporters and I will keep posting content and demos on my page. First releases of demo on Steam

I released a short game demo of AOZ on Steam and the game isn’t on sale yet. Overall I have gotten over 600 downloads over 2-3 days and wishlists increases by over 1000%. Most of the impressions came from Asia which I suspect is because of the chinese title but still needs more testing to be sure. It is all positive results to me so far. Well there’s a rumor that demo will hurt sales but I don’t know if that’s true as AOZ demo brings me more wishlists. Could be different if the game is for sale. Before this releases on Steam, I released the demo on both Itchio and Gamejolt. Both gotten positive results so this does brings me some confident that the game won’t do badly on Steam. I believe that it is a good method to release your demo game on smaller websites to see if your game is good enough before going for Steam. My previous game ‘Starboost EX‘ failed badly on the smaller sites which it also didn’t do well on Steam either so this method can be useful. Getting into China’s Weibo

So after researching on China’s market and read some blog posts, I decided to go ahead and created my first Chinese game dev blog on Weibo. KOEX games Weibo. I only made a few posts about my assassin platformer game which is set in ancient China. I can write chinese but I still have to use google translation to type it out. They said that weibo works like twitter and it kinda does. You write your posts and add some harshtags. With just 3 posts, the differences between weibo and twitter is that you will be getting more views and interactions on twitter. Maybe weibo just needs more time to gather followers and view, I don’t know. I’ll make another post regarding this after a month to see what kind of results will weibo brings. Interesting..

New project announced & discord

All of Zhem is a project that I have been developing on and off for a few months. After the releasing of ‘Starboost EX’ on Steam early-access, I decided to release a demo version of AOZ on itch.io and gamejolt. Turns out that the game gather quite a big of popularity. For a month time, there are downloads on every day. And youtubers are making gameplay video on the game too. Then a month later, the views drastically falls to a few especially on itchio. Total on Itchio: 217 downloads, 1100 views and 0 donations. Total on Gamejolt: 700 downloads, 5000 views and 0 donations. Well the short popularity does let me know whether this game has the potential to grow so I also created a Steam page for it to gather some wishlist. Early-access experience

I launched my early-access game a few weeks ago. It is my first ever steam released game and early-access game. So far I have only been reading on people’s success and failure stories. My early-access game on Steam – Starboost EXSo what’s the result and experience I have gotten so far? first, the sales amount is not as good as I am hoping but I am thinking that this is might be the reality for my game ‘Starboost EX’ as there wasn’t a big follower group for this game before release nor is it heavily advertised nor is it popular. It was a early-access failure but I did learned some things. Currently I am fixing and changing the game including changing the name to make it more appealing. PUNK-EX 2093 launched on Early-access

Hi everyone, PUNK-EX has launched on early-access Steam. It’s been 6 months since developing this game and I am excited to get it out on Steam. https://store.steampowered.com/app/917990/PUNKEX_2093 It is a fast-paced arcade style shooter which basically you played as a ‘Space Ironman’. The game gone through several phrases of changes especially in the graphic side which I hope to share on one of my posts one day. Sales Right now the sales aren’t quite that good but it could be because it is still a early-access game. SEEDS Savior – bad result

Took my mobile game and converted into a web game. Right now it is published on Itch.io This is my first android game with less than 10 downloads in several months. It could be the result of the lack of marketing but I seen games gotten more downloads even without marketing. Perhaps I made a game that no one wants to play? Even on Itch.io, there’s less than 10 views. I have done a few promotion here and there but the result is still bad.

PUNK-EX- space update

Added some new screenshots to the Steam page. This week I was mainly focusing on the space aspect of the game – the space debris and environments. Then and also improving on the character design with additional armors for his legs as well as the store UI. IndieDB decided to feature my game on the front page! Hope this will get more exposure for the early-access release. But for some reasons, IndieDB always pick the weirdest image from my game to be featured..

Live on Square Enix Collective!

‘There Is No Tomorrow’ is live on Square Enix Collective! Vote now on whether you will support the game in future! On the page, you will see new gameplay videos and shots. The Process I applied to SQC (Square Enix Collective) since 6 months ago but was rejected several times. I kept updating my project proposal and they finally accepted my project. Even though I am not entirely sure how big of impact or exposure the game will get from being on SQC but it is certainly a achievement.

PUNK-EX on Steam!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/917990/PUNKEX PUNK-EX is on Steam now as ‘Coming Soon’. The plan is to launch it in late 2018 as a Early-Access game. It is a Sci-fi shooter game inspired by my favorite gundam games as well as the popular Mass Effect games. The gameplay video above is from a few months back. Since then, there are quite a lot of changes made to the game. Added new map locations New enemy types include space pirates and robots.
