A Boring Entry....

Hey everyone!

Like I promised, here's my late night journal update for you guys, but I'm warning you, there's not much to see here tonight.

About the coolest thing I did today was get rid of the crappy Win32 OGL initialization crap that I've been using for years now. It was a huge chunk of Win32 code, half of which I had no idea to its purpose. In any case, I swapped my crappy init code for the streamlined sweetness of GLFW, and it really cleaned up my Main.cpp file from about 1000 lines to less than 100.

After the switch was completed, I moved on to making everything in the game have frame-independent movement. This took some time, as I wrote a lot of update code into my rendering loops (lazy I know), so I had to go fish all of that stuff out and place it in its own Update function. The whole deal worked a lot better than I had hoped, creating an easily recognizable difference in performance on my parent's crappy computer.

All in all, I'm happy with GLFW and my progress for today, although nothing I did was worthy of making a Video for...

Mark on the other hand has been working on a Banner to replace the old Angels 20 one at the top of my journal, but he apparently isn't quite finished with it yet, so until then (probably tomorrow), you guys will have to look at these improved fighter and bomber sprites.




Well, I'll hopefully post tomorrow night with some new gameplay details and the banner from Mark, so I'll talk to you guys later!
