I lie... alot

Ok, so I lied, again. I was planning on working on splat maps and doing 3D terrains and such, but I can't seem to figure out the concept of splat maps. So, I'm working on a somewhat simple 2D RPG called Quest for the Dragon Forge. I say somewhat simple because its going to be mouse oriented, with a full featured GUI, and random tile groups (i.e. there are 4 different tiles for each terrain type, and when a tile is rendered the system randomly chooses 1 of the 4, so that it looks less tiled.)

  • 2D Tile Based (non iso)

  • Fringing system

  • Mouse oriented GUI

  • Mouse oriented movement

  • Simple scripting language

  • Variable sized monsters (i.e. dragons will be big)

  • In depth skill and magic trees

  • Simple item creation system

I have the basic idea of what the game is going to be about, so I'm going to spend the next 4 or so hours typing out the design document.

The point of the project is to make a simple engine that I can modify and upgrade into the full RPG system that I've been working on (hence the name, Quest for the Dragon Forge.) It will also define the elements (races, history, planets, rule system, etc) that I will be using in the rest of my games.
