It's been a while...

It's been a while since the last entry. That doesn't mean I'm slacking...I've just been busy with a lot of other stuff [grin]. I have not had much time to post my progress.

[Rambling about the gym]

I've been re-structuring my lifestyle a bit...I'm shooting for some serious results. About 2 weeks ago I weighted in at 150lbs and about 8-9% body fat (I'm about 6'1 tall). I've been working out at least 2 times a week for the last 3-4 years since high school so I'm in pretty good shape. I've also got great metabolism, and ntaurally tend to build lean muscle...that's always nice.

But now I'm taking it to a new level. I'm hoping to get my weight to 180-190lbs and get my body fat to 4-5%. In the last 2 weeks I've gained ~10lbs of muscle and dropped my body fat to about 6-7% which is pretty good for 2 weeks of work. I'm planning to continue my intensive workout for at least 6-8 weeks, or until I reach my targeted weight of 185lbs.

Every other day I do 30-50km on the bike...days I don't ride, I hit the weights intensivly. It takes me about a hour and a half to complete my bike rides, but I burn at least 700 calories, and keep my heart rate in the red zone (150-170bpm) the whole time....I can already notice major results in my day to day activities as a result of these intense cardio workouts. I'm turning into a machine [grin].

In addition to my workout schedule every day, I'm spending a lot of time preparing a proper diet to maximize the results. In order for me to gain all this muscle mass I need a lot of protein, so I'm taking about 100g of protein supplements a day, as well as eating a protein heavy, low-fat diet. Mostly things like tuna, chicken, salad, bread, milk, fruit, yogurt, etc. Combine that with a mix of supplements and vitamins, and I think I've got that part of the equation covered.

Strength wise I'm improving a lot as well...I'm doing sets of curls with 50lb dumbells in each arm, with relative ease. I'm also doing sets of bench press (6-8 reps) with close to 200 lbs. I'm pretty happy about that, considering I only weigh 160lbs right now.

I keep track of most of this information in a log book, so I can easily see my progress and track my gains.

Overall I'm very happy with my results so far and that's what I've been spending a lot of my time doing. I really enjoy it...not as much as I enjoy programming though [grin].

[/end rambling about the gym]

I've been working on the game with the other half of my time....I'm just about finished re-doing the entire synchronization system for the Vehicles & NPCs. Tweaking my old system was taking too much time, and some 'unsolvable' cases turned up, which caused things to come out of wack.

Essentially I was piecing together the game world from each of the clients, and farming out the physics and AI between them and reconstructing it serverside. This means I didn't need to run a version of the gameworld server side, so I could run 15 servers on a single machine. There were too many problems with this approach (though it was very bandwidth efficient, as I planned it to be) so I'm switching to a more proven client/server approach where the server just runs the authoritiative version of the world.

I've added a cell phone into the game which allows gangsters to accept missions, etc. I've also done some work on the territory managment in the game, and I'll post some more info once I get further into that.

Also I'll be sure to let you guys know when the game gets into some kind of BETA stage!

Ah...well I guess I have to post some screenshots...so here ya go :-)

Just out of curiosity, have you found that the more physically active you are the better you can concentrate on things like work / game dev? Though it may be harder for you to make an observation on that as you said you've been doing it for a few years now..

Very nice man. Keep up the great work-out plan! Ever since I got out of the Marines, I've been slacking. I need to get back in there.

What's your lifting split right now? What exercises per body part? I can lend some sound advice here and there.
