First off, GameDev Plus is now active, and it's not too expensive. For just a few bucks, you can get your own developer journal and hosted webspace, the ability to host downloads on the GD Showcase, forum extras, and enough discounts on computer books to justify the cost of membership.

And, best of all, it'll hopefully give gamedev enough cash to finally allow at least one employee to start working full-time for gamedev.net. And then you'll really start seeing some improvements above and beyond what's already up.

So get over here and sign up!

Boy, Java on Nokia's S60 plaform is certainly broken. In addition to crashing when getting a substring from a large string, it also crashes when playing some sounds, has broken graphics clipping logic, and leaks memory whenever you load an image.

Strangely enough, none of this stuff shows up on the more limited S30/S40 platforms. You'd think they would've spent a bit more time on their "premier" S60 (3650, 6600, N-Gage) platform, but it's just ugly the stuff I've gotta do to make it work.

Ugh, whatta mess.
