Space combat prototype: release

The space combat prototype should be released today at 3 PM GMT. Yay! Instructions to download the client will be posted in the Testing and Feedback forum at release time.

I wanted to post a full dev update (the "so called space combat prototype - phase 9") but i've just been lacking time. I'm counting minutes. My TODO list is becoming longer and longer. At the moment it got 70 items to implement in around 5 hours. Fortunately, most of those items are small fixes or features. The main thing left to add are particle effects, an ini/setup dialog box for the client, and the radar. Wish me luck! Back to coding..

If anyone is looking for a little Newtonian space fun in the mean time, I've just recently posted my final project from my Game Technology class. You can see some screenshots and download the game from my website:

If you get a chance to play it, please leave some feedback on my website. Thanks! :)

I get "The application failed to initialize properly (0x0150002)." imediately the app starts, but this is probably because this computer has an integrated video card.

Thanks for the bug report. Do you get the error message before even seeing the renderer setup dialog? The game requires either DirectX 9.0c or OpenGL, but I would expect you have one or the other. Unfortunately it only runs well on GeForce 4+ (or equivalent). I haven't tried it on an integrated chip.

Me and my team went to a RoboCup game last weekend and as the lead AI programmer I had LOTS of things to fix and tweak even just a few minutes before our first game in the event! I never thought I could work this fast until I had such a strong deadline. It's amazing what one can do in 5 hours :) Good luck!!

gtbass, don't you think it's a bit impolite to announce your game AND also receive feedback for it in Ysaneya's journal?

@Ysaneya: If you'd like the posts deleted, flag them.

Well, it's not like the world is coming to an end.. could have been posted elsewhere, but it really doesn't matter.

Just want to let people here know that I played in Ysaneya's combat prototype last night and it worked very well indeed. We were having some great fully newtonian dogfights and more fun than we should have been having on a serious engine development test.

I've posted a full review of my first experience of Infinity combat in the Infinity testing and feedback forum, along with a short video, if anybody here is interested in reading more.

Thank you Crayfish :)

Just to let everybody know, that has been a crazy week. I have a lot to say about the prototype. And a full article/postmortem to write. But that'll wait a few days, there's still some stability issues to fix. This journal probably won't be updated before next week.

The good news is, if the stability issues are fixed, and if i can solve the "aiming" problems (it's very hard to a small fighter to hit another fighter), the end result should probably be quite fun and interesting to play. Not as deep as a full game, but certainly a small little thing to pass time. More news later.
