Good news and Bad news

Well, the good news is that I don't have to go into work tomorrow. The bad news is that it's because DC UK is getting liquidated. Which also means that none of us are getting paid for the past 5 weeks of work... All the contracts are apparently signed to DC Canada, and most of the equipment is owned by them too. So there's not an awful lot to liquidate.

So, now I'm jobless and broke... So I'm going to get drunk [grin]

Oh, shit. I figured it would go down the tubes (from stuff on TCE), but not that fast.

Can't you file suit to get your last five weeks of wages back? I thought the UK was super-nice for workers' rights and unemployment.

Not really. I can't get anything from the government (nobody there can), because I haven't been working there for over 2 years. I believe we get money from any assets liquified, but that's not an awful lot, since most of it is owned by DC Canada...

Did you at least manage to swipe something from your office (books, hardware)?

Not paying you and closing the company is the lowest of the low.

I'd like to do more gamedev stuff. Actually, I'd like to bum around for a month and try and get a few more projects and articles done, then get another gamedev job.

I got athat 60GB laptop HDD from the office move, along with a few mice and miles of Cat-5. I have better books than are at the office anyway [smile]

EDIT: Woah, how is this post above rav's? [looksaround]

Hmm. I guess theres no point telling you about the season tickets between edinburgh and glasgow then :( Sucks that you've gotten screwed around so much.

How hard is it to get work in Edinburgh ? I've been looking for a few months - agencies arent giving me any joy tho.

Don't bother with the agencies, they're useless. I got noticed on GamesIndustry.Biz, and for my interview with RockStar, I applied for a position of Tools Programmer they had advertised in GamesIndustry.Biz.
Basically, sign up on GamesIndustry.Biz [smile]

I was aware of the season tickets and other things, but I was also aware that nobody knew how long the office was going to be in Glasgow for. You can get a weekly ticket for £65 or something, which was what I was going to use starting Monday.

Hmm. Thanks for that address.
Not sure i want to work on games professionally tho - just being a hobby might be better.

Ok, now as this happened, release all your work to the public.

I'm not sure if I'm still under NDA, even since the company has been liquidated. Particularly since the projects could still be picked up.

So I'll err on the safe side and say "No." [smile]
