Hey everyone!

This will be my last journal update until at least Friday. I'm going up to the U.S. Air Force Academy for a week to see what it's like and decide if I want to go there or not. It's supposed to be pretty intense (the stuff they sent me included the phrase: "Intense Tactical & Military Scenarios"[grin]), so I most likely wont be able to get to a computer and write an update. Anyways, on with the entry!

Save/Load
Today I wrote the save/load routines and coded up a little popup window that asks you what you want to name the map(if you're saving), or what map you want to load(if you're... loading). It's pretty cool, and I'm happy with how it turned out. It also brings us that much closer to being able to make some playable maps, after which we can focus on more exciting things, like cramming as many sickle-and-hammer emblems as we can into the game[wink]. I made it so that the name of the current object would show up under it in the big preview window. Anyways, here's the screen:

Well, that's all for now, I expect at least 20 comments from you guys by the time I get back[wink] Oh, and by the way, Mark might be getting a GDNet++ account soon, so look forward to that. Peace Out!

Air Force, eh? Sounds intense. [grin]

I plan on joining the militia this summer to gain some cash-a-roony, so now we have some firepower against the nay-sayers who claim us programmers can't kick arse outside of the internet. :P

The Air Force is a good way to go. My dad was in the Air Force for 20 years, as an engineer. If I were planning on joining any branch of the military (which I'm not), I would pick the Air Force.

The map editor looks great, I look forward to playing the game.

You should release the editor before your game, hopefully some people will create additional game content for free. :)

How do you manage the irregular terrain if it's a tile engine?

I like rounded-edge dialogue boxes.

Also, it doesn't appear to be a tile engine.

Nope, it's not a tile engine, though all the buildngs are taken from our older game Angels 20 which was tiled.
I'll do more buildings, probably as we decide on certian what's going to be in certain missions. Right now I'm working on that fancy end-game enemy, so maybe if I get my own journal you can lookk forward to that...

Yeah, releasing the level editor would be pretty cool, especally if we make Dogfight online as well- and we'll be slightly closer to conquering teh intarnets
