C# Language Specification as a method of learning the C# language. People said it was quite an easy/informative read and from the first 50 or so pages I'd have to agree. Seems they've also just released the 4th (June '06) edition as well - the one I downloaded on the original recommendation was only the 3rd.
Also reminds me of a good entry in johnhattan's journal a while back about the C# vs Java standardisation. Which one is preferred by the OSS community? Which one is actually an "open" language? [rolleyes]
Curiously, Sun are acknowledged in the C# specification - I'm surprised they got involved given the direct competition with Java and how much money they make by licencing Java...
So, if it wasn't obvious enough... I'm sitting down to learn C# today. I figure it won't be too hard to get the basics sorted; then I can spend a bit of time making some simple programs and see where I get stuck.
What simple programs to write is proving to be a bit of a challenge for some strange reason. I want to get the language sorted before I dig too deeply into the .NET class libraries and other Windows-specific stuff.
Also, if I can be bothered I need to sort out an RSS reader. Been a lot of good blog/journal entries lately and its taking too much time to check them all out manually. Figure I might try the RSS reader in IE7...
Oh, and in final (bad) news. Looks like I'm gonna be completely out of the game for Windows Vista and Direct3D 10. Which is very disappointing
I really enjoyed working with D3D10 and it's gonna be annoying to wait until I can buy a new computer to work with it properly.
Downloaded 5456 earlier in the week, can't even *start* the installation process as it won't allow me to select a disk to install to - complains (as in previous builds) that my IDE controller is unsupported. Can't find ANY drivers online despite it being a generic on-board Intel chipset...
I lose my proper internet access end of next week, so I won't be able to download any updated builds until September at the earliest.
Have you submitted bugs and done the install surveys on connect, saying you can't install it at all?
That's really a huge bummer because I was excited about some of the DX10 stuff you would be working on, and I want to help you get going on Vista :-P
