Hey everyone!

As promised, today I actually have stuff of value to show you guys.

Wingman
Thats right folks, you no longer have to fly solo, now you can have a (semi) smart AI buddy tag along and help you blow stuff up. You're able to give your wingman simple commands, such as "Attack My Target", "Form Up", "Attack Nearest Ground Target", etc. Right now, the only completed states are "Form Up", and "Attack Nearest Ground Target", although they really need to be cleaned up and fixed, because they really don't seem very human right now, the fighter moves too robotic, and there's no unpredictability in it's actions, so theres still lots of work to be done, but for now, here's a screeny of the two of us attacking a light flak unit:



Helicopters!
Today I coded up the Helicopter unit into the game. There will be many types of helicopters in the game, both enemy and friend. Anyways, I wasn't feeling up to the task of implementing AI for the helicopters just yet, so I made them a player controlled, so that I could test all the functions, and it turned out to be pretty fun to fly the helicopter around. Mark and I are currently considering having a helicopter level where you fly a lightly armed helicopter, and you have to use your wingman to take out defenses, so that you can do something cool, like insert a SEAL team or something. Anyways, here's a screen of the rescue helicopter flying over some flak, including a new type you haven't seen before (unless you played Angels 20, in which case, just pretend[grin])



Well, that's all I've got for you guys tonight, but check back again tomorrow, and I should have something cool to show, perhaps a video of the AI in action. Anyways, let us know what you think! Peace Out!

It would require a bit of physics but have you considered cargo carrying for the helicopter as well? The cargo would be carried like a pendulum under the helicopter and the weight affects your movement making it more difficult to fly as it swings about. Could be you have to get supplies to a location. If you have played the classic game Thurst you will know what I mean.

Nice screenshots. There is one thing bothering me, the hospital in the second screenshot has a black border around the building and the windows, this breaks the general style used in your game. I hope you can get Mr. Artist Dude to clean it up. Anyway, I like the helicopter, variety is always a good thing.

It has a darker outline (not black) than the rest of the buildings, but the only reason it sticks out is because it's 'lighter' than the other 2 buildings on screen. The building to the left has a yellow tint to it and the building to the right looks dirty and is darker. It looks perfectly fine. Do you want all of the buildings to look exactly the same or something?

Keep up the good work Sapo! Helicopters + jets = uber-coolness.

I actually did consider something along those lines, but I'm not sure my physics skillz are good enough to get a system like that work, although a mission where you need to drop tanks and troops where they're needed to defend something would be pretty awesome!

Yeah, the hospital was one of the first building Mark drew up for Angels 20, the apartments were drawn about halfway through development, and the church was one of the last things he added to the game, so you can see how his art style changed overtime.

So awesome. Something like this could easily turn in the commercial direction and probably bring in some good loot. [smile]

EDIT: Oh, and hurry up and make a sky gradient so everything above the bottom 15% of the screen looks interesting too!

Thanks, it would be pretty damn cool if we made even 1 dollar off this thing, but I doubt we will[grin]

And about the gradient thing, we're thinking of doing something cool for this, so don't worry!
