Now to getting something...you know...walking

My plan today is to start working on getting the player in-game. Basically, just having it walk around and have collision detection.

For right now, I'm just going to draw the player as a stick figure. Eventually I'm going to either draw the character sprites by hand, or have someone else do it. However, I'm not really in the mood to draw them right now (well, not that I'm usually in the mood to draw anything). I'm more in the mood to get straight into programming, because the art doesn't have to be great right away.

Since I came up with this project, I've been trying to indulge in various Science Fiction media. Mostly to draw inspiration for this game, but also just because I've become increasingly interested in it. Recently, I watched "2001: A Space Odyssey" for the first time. Also, I ordered "The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy".

I've read the first Hitchhiker's book, and I know that it is the best one. However, I saw I could get the whole series for the same price that I got the first book, so I figured I should. The humor and themes expressed in the book is much like what I want in this game's story.

Anyways, hopefully I'll have a screenshot of a stick figure walking around town tomorrow.[grin]
