My name in the tiles

Some vertical scrolling:

I'm very excited about the possibilites this new code offers for level design. I'm going to make sure that when I design the levels, they take full advantage of what the code can do. When I wrote Stompy's Revenge, I was very limited by the level code I wrote. All the levels had to be the same size, and could only scroll horizontally. However, now there are more choices.

For instance there will be some levels that mostly side scroll, others that do alot of both. There will even be a level of climbing a tower straight up.

Ofcourse, I need something to make these levels with, so I'm getting to work on the map editor. But first, I'm going to write the code for Blocky Man, and get him running around.

The layered scrolling engine looks rather sharp.

If you need any code, I've been using the same smooth-scrolling tile engine design forever. It has a map format, loader/writer/editor, four-corner collision for arbitrary sized sprites, and some simple culling.

I think this is my third or fourth tile engine that I've written from scratch. And that's not even counting the one's I used in overhead games!
