Okay, so its just a constant colour blended across a plane and would probably only be considered impressive in the 1980's [lol]

At least its proof that the basic framework is coming together and I can now start working on the real stuff.

I'll be interested to see what you come up with. Developing a realistic and yet visually pleasing water shader was one of the things I really wanted to do, but never quite managed.

It's a tricky bastard, because there's so many variables - view angle, density of sediment in the water, light angles, depth... it's really a combination of pretty much every lighting phenomenon in the book.
