Video Card Woes

Well, I think I may have solved the issues that I've been having with my 'defective' video card. Turns out it needs a 350W power supply in its host computer. Oops. Mine is only.. 185W. The tech support guy says running it at that wattage could damage my computer. Eeek.

So I flew over to tigerdirect.ca and picked a relatively cheap (came to $50CAN with shipping/etc) power supply that is now en route to Chez HopeDagger (as of tomorrow). This should mean that things will ideally work properly after I get it installed, and maybe even some performance uppage. Splendifirous.

Legac---er..

No major Legacy progress at the moment. I did implement entity-locking on the Camera class, so that cameras can now focus on an entity -- usually the player. Also the beginnings of a customizable key system are in the works; should be finished up sometime tomorrow.

I've been playing a reasonable amount of a PC game called Restricted Area. The title is quite lame, but it plays sort of like a cyberpunk Diablo 2 sort of game. It's pretty fun, the graphics are absolutely lovely, and it's been giving me tons of inspiration and good ideas for Legacy. So I'll toss some of those in instead of Legacy screenshots. :P

Legacy certainly won't look as amazingly sleek at Restricted Area, but it definitely has a cooler name, and will surely have groovier gameplay. Stay tuned!

Don't forget to have your name start with an 'a' so in any alphabetical list you're at the top.

Glow is basically based around the major gameplay failings of Restricted Area; it features a simplified interface, basic statistics and action-driven gameplay rather than hidden statistical throws.

SomethingAwful pretty much tore it apart, so I took the tearing to heart (even though SA, well, tears everything apart) and tried to improve on it. After all, if you can impress SA, you can impress anyone. [wink]

Oh man! How long have you been running that system with just 185W? Thats a pretty scary thought. Coder + Computer Gamer != 185W!

Heck, I bought a 550W just so that I wouldn't even need to worry about it. :oP

The engine for RA is just incredible. Not the best game in the world, but I wouldn't mind stealing the engine. Kind of dumb IMHO to spend all that time writing it all in assembly though.

Great to hear. I hope to see plenty of crazy lighting effects, too, to keep things on par. [smile]

Far too long. I'm not really that hardware-savvy, so I wasn't aware of this being a problem. Hopefully the new PSU will arrive shortly and disaster can be averted!
