they have been fool-proof strategies thus-far.

Since you just wanted to get it off your chest, I suppose you can consider it gotten.

One word of advice: either keep the women completely separated, or make it abundantly clear that it is a casual dating situation. The second even one begins to think there's any exclusivity and then runs up against a "competitor," you will find yourself in an uncomfortable pickle. I say this with particular reference to L1 and L3.

L1 actually knows about L2 (and though I told her about V, I may not have been specific enough for her to realize that she was distinct from L2) and I'm pretty sure she was catching on to L3's advances. That's okay, because I think Chris and/or Den are interested in L3, at least for a frollick, so their's no need to be greedy. I've about decided that I don't want to see L2 anymore; it will take a pretty good story to get me interested in her again.

Why can't they make this easy like N from three weeks ago. She turned out to be a Russian spy1, so that made that decision rather easy.

Assuming for a moment that L1 only knows of one other girl as I suspect (I never used names), and L3 is quelled before she becomes an issue, how do I tell L1 that L2 is over without sounding like a total ass?

1 of course she isn't actually a spy, she just asked a lot of weird questions about my parents' time in the military

L1 sounds like the only nice one. Nothing wrong with her being shy, she'll warm up. How long is she here? Maybe doesn't want to get into a long term relation then have to go home.

whoa, and I thought "those gypsys themselves will die" was a weird line.

So, I feel like a complete ass now. Before we went to the dance class, L1 and I went for a drink at a nice bar. About half way through she says "we need to talk..." (never good), and goes into how she doesn't think she's ready to get into another relationship as she is still in love with her previous ex, blah blah blah blah. We went to the dance class anyway, which was somewhat akward as she kept smiling at me in that way that girls do to guys they like.

uh... we (L1 and I) ended up making out on her floor for about an hour last night and then falling asleep together. Thiiiis is going to hurt. This isn't just a car accident, this is a car accident that you see coming from 100 yards away.

I hate it when exs get in the way. They always come out of nowhere as well. You hear all of these horrible stories about how they hurt her, and then she goes back to be with him. I mean common.... Don't have patience for L1, man. It's going to hurt, but she's in love and it's not with you. Tell her that you want her, and then let her decide.

So maybe V is back in the picture. I hope so, she seems really interested in me, and I like her. We only ever talk on the phone, but when we do she asks questions about me, which was my main gripe with L2 (lack of reciprocal interest). If we could ever get our damn acts together, I think V could be really good for me.

Had a date with V on Sunday. We went for lunch and talked for something like two hours. I have no reason to stick with L1 (she's been wishy-washy again, after I thought things were going well for a change), and I really like V. She's gone for a week for a training seminar in Dallas (or maybe that's next week... idk). Egad, I'm feeling kind of queezy now.

So for now I'm down to just one girl that I'm interested in pursuing. I like it like that, it's simple and inexpensive. However, Chris is trying to bump it up to two again, by hooking me up with one M. I don't know much of anything about M other than I met her briefly one night when I had been drinking heavily (though luckily I was not very drunk yet).
