Two reasons to celebrate (I'm heading over to the O/L for some beers in a minute [wink]):

1) I passed my driving theory test today. I guess with the international GDNet audience that may not mean anything, but here in the UK you have to apply for a provisional licence, do the theory then do the practical and then you can upgrade to a full licence.

I got 34/35 for the multi-choice part (30 or above is a pass) and 59/75 for the hazard perception (44 or above is a pass). I would've got higher (63 or 64) but apparently I cheated on one of the clips which is utter bollocks [flaming]. Anyway, a pass is a pass so I'm happy.

2) I'm running Windows Vista [grin][grin][grin]
Got my new PC delivered - installed and configured Vista in under 25 minutes (which I thought was pretty fast) with no sign of any problems. Gotta install Office '07 and VSTS (Yeah, I've got the full TS version [razz]). Then its time to get on with some D3D10 goodness...

congratulations!!
it feels pretty good to pass that damn test.

taking you license is basicly the same here in sweden.
here you can start practise your driving skills when you are 16 after applying for approvement.
when you have turned 18 you can do the theory test and then you have to pass on the practical, then you get your license.

Thanks [grin]

Much of the theory test here is common sense - it does make you wonder when you meet people who've failed it several times [oh]

hehe, i passed both the theaory and practical on the first try to :)
oh and in sweden we have to do one more thing, we have to test drive on slippery surfaces, that was defenetly the best part of taking the license.

best of luck to you getting the license

Congratulations, Jack!

The Vista install makes me feel hopeful. I still haven't connected my second driver, and might not do this for a while, but it's good to know that Vista can install.

Vista is a beautiful thing... except not all apps like to work with it which makes me sad because I'm using a Vista only box for now T_T

Congrats on passing the driving theory test.

That sounds fun! Unless you do a test in the winter and accidentally come across ice then you're unlikely to do that in a UK test [headshake]

Well from the sounds of it, your core system isn't that dissimilar to mine - so fingers crossed [grin]

I most definitely will be. I'll probably be exclusively working on D3D10 code for the forseeable future...

Cheers,
Jack

I'm downloading the newest Vista build now, but it's downloading at 20-30K/s, which means it's been running for 15 hours and still 15 hours to go (give or take a few hours). Since it's an x86 build only anyway, I'm thinking maybe I'll just wait for RC1.
