I've been working on a title screen:

When the game is actually run, the background of the title screen scrolls right constantly. In the finished version, since the game will save your progress, the background will be of the level you're currently on.

The finished version of the title screen will feature:

New Game - Start the main game from the beginning.
Continue - Continue from where you left off
Level Select - Play levels you've already beaten.
Level Editor - Create and play your own levels.
Credits - See who made the game...er...me(and my brother, and anybody else I get to join this project).
Exit - Exit the game.

I'm doing this now because it will help me develop levels. I'll be able to edit and test levels without having to close the program.

Looks and sounds pretty cool.

A debug console system would fix this =P.

A debug console is a nice idea, I'm toying with the idea of implementing something similar but there's some other avenues I want to explore first :)

You could build the level select in to a feature of the game like they do in the mario games with warp pipes. You might want to lift this idea directly or perhaps make the level select a mini-game (almost) itself where you run to the right exit indicated by the visual styles around the exits?

I probably should implement a debug console, but I really wouldn't know where to start.

I was considering the warp pipe idea, but since there will be cutscenes in between levels, it would skip several of the cutscenes.

I could show you my system to give you an idea where to start. It's not the best but it's pretty flexible. Hell, you could use mine if you want, but it'd take a lot of modifications lol.
