A great game idea came to me this morning. I have been writing down my ideas. I can't wait to get a team together to start working on it.

To sum it up, think of it as mixing the darkness of Twisted Metal with the gameplay of GTA: Vice City with a style of Thief! (That doesn't even capture what is on my mind).

Now, I have a question. When you come up with a game design and fill out the template looking for a team, how do you stop someone else from stealing the idea? How much information do you reveal?

It will be a while before I look for a team as I want to solidify this idea and learn some more programming :P

99.9% of the time, nobody is going to bother stealing your idea. Personal game ideas -- no matter how cool they sound to you personally -- don't appeal as much to the reader. Even if they DO try to steal it, the odds of them completing a game identical to yours is minimal. Two people implementing the 'same game' will still both result in vastly different experiences.

I honestly would not worry about it. I intend on putting up my whole design document on the internet for scrutinization, with zero fear of someone stealing my project. [smile]

If they steal your idea, big deal. The implementation's the thing.

Still, you can always protect yourself by only identifying the basic components of the game ("it's an action game") with perhaps some tantalizing elements ("where you steal cars in 18th century Greece") and a couple of mock-up screenshots.

A demo's still your best bet for recruiting.

How do you do a demo without any graphics? I am by no means an artist...
