v1.2: Soon

I have a shit load of assignments due this week. As I try to struggle through them, you all must find bugs in my code or something.

v1.2, which I like to call the "super duper HopeDagger special edition", has these new features:
  • Nicer UI elements, including a flashing indicator when you have character points left to "spend"
  • Game save and load (makes the game waaay too easy, IMHO)
  • Option to have a "respawn penalty" (wait one second before you can respawn)
  • Sliding portraits in the conversation screen
  • More comments in the game code
  • Version number now displayed on menu screen

Hopefully this will be the final-final version of Glow that I will be releasing, and then it's off to wider distribution. Please play v1.1 (Windows, Mac OS X) and give me some more information if you find a nasty bug that I need to fix for v1.2!

I think it would be nice (and more challenging) if you did a save at each checkpoint, and when the player dies that save is reloaded. Right now the game is a bit too easy with only respawning, IMO.

could be nice if levels that i have completed will be avalaible in menu so i wont have to start again from begin, this can be that save feature, becouse saving yourself will make game relly easy(ok, its still a bit easy because respawn, what about difficults like in hard will not be a respawn?) and i discovered one bug in 1.0 but i will first check if you didnt repair it already in 1.1 :p

Seems to me that it would be better to do an autosave at every checkpoint and remove manual save, and then load that every time the player dies. The current checkpoint system makes it too easy IMO.

Lemme see if I can answer these in order.

Eh, that's probably a good idea, but I sort of like the infinite-respawn deal. Sort of like Titan Quest.

I wish I had thought of that from the start, then my entity setup would've been different for the levels. That's definitely going into my next game.

I had considered that at one point, but I'm not sure it's really possible to finish the game without dying. [grin]

Oh, okay. Hopefully it's been fixed. [grin]

Hahaha, that little bastard is still stuck in the wall. Every couple of releases I'm sure I got rid of all the monsters stuck in the wall on level 2, but I guess not. [grin] Edit: There, now he's gone. He was even sticking out of the wall in the editor. Cheeky bugger.

I'll see if I can take care of that, for sure.

I'm not sure why it's crashing when exiting from fullscreen; it doesn't seem to do it for me. What video card do you have?

Hmm. Might be a shader-disabling issue. I'll take a look at it on a machine without shaders, thanks.

Not sure which version I was playing (I got it off of the GD.net showcase page), but this was the first place I could find to comment on Glow.

Firstly, it was a blast playing through the main game (got to level 3), but once I excited, I'd have to start over again. I really didn't want to do that, so I hopped into Survival mode and enjoyed myself there for a while. It was quite fun, but the first time that I played, I walked a long ways from where anything was spawning, so I didn't have much to do. Then, once I set up fullscreen mode, I got very bad frame rates. Previously, it had been getting very smooth and high framerates. With FS, it couldn't have been much more than 10 fps. I've got a GeForce 6200 256mb, 1gb RAM, and a Pentium 4 3.0ghz. I'd really like to see this issue resolved, since I kept on clicking outside of the game when I was in Windowed mode.

Anyhow, fun game, nice art, and I think that the sounds really fit the setting.
