Indie games the next indie film scene??

Now that I feel like a real member of the indie game scene I've taken some time to step back and look at the scene as a whole. Originally I thought that there was a IGF and that was it celebrating indie games. As it is there seems to be a whole gaggle of indie games festivals. I recently entered the Slamdance festival which is also associated with the Slamdance film festival. Seemed worth the $40 fee to get in.

So will we ever get to the point where the indie game scene is as big as the indie movie scene? Will some indie game at a festival ever get the huge press hit like that Borat movie has been getting lately? I know that some IGF winners get a publishing deal but I've never really seen non-industry press pick up on them. Maybe we're still too early in the process. After all it's only been the last few years since the mainstream press has picked up on huge AAA game releases as well. All in all I think it's only going to get better for indie developers.
