Whoa.

Quote:"Defense Secretary Rumsfeld says we need to protect against a 'space Pearl Harbor,'" he says. "But we're still the dominant power there."

I can see it now...

SPACE PEARL HARBOR: A MICHAEL BAY FILM, STARRING BEN AFFLECK.

You know, combining Armageddon and Pearl Harbor.

Yeesh.

Pouya, write your next comic about SPACE PEARL HARBOR.

By the way, I was out of power for seven days straight; finally got it back on Wednesday. Damn Buffalo weather. Grr.

Interestingly; we've had many worse snowstorms than that before, but none has ever knocked out 95% of the power in the county before. It's gotten me thinking a lot about evolution; the reason we lost power so large and so long was because the snow caused around 70% of the trees in the county to sustain heavy damage. Since this storm happened so early in the season that the trees all still had leaves on them, and the combined weight of the snow and the leaves was just way too much to handle.

So that's interesting; tree's evolved in the northern/southern areas of the world to shed their leaves to avoid this sort of thing?

Oh man, I am SO getting in line for Space Pearl Harbor by Michael Bay. I only hope it has that "car explodes and flips over car in front of it" effect that lets the audience know that they're in for pure Bayesque goodness.

BTW, if you haven't seen "The Island", see it. They set out to make a movie with even more product plugs and a deeper smell of ass than "I, Robot", and danged if they didn't succeed.

In any case, any leanings towards protecting ourselves from Space Terrorism(tm) smack of bottomless stupidity from our Chimp In Charge. Let's be honest -- we're talking about cultures that couldn't build an airplane, and I'm supposed to worry about them getting something into orbit?

It really smacks of desperation at this point.

Um, their worried mainly about China and other possibly hositle nations, not terrorist networks, and there is a huge importance in our space capability in keeping track of what's going on in the world that might be a threat, and that capability is extremely vulnerable to attack.

Sorry to bust your "LOL GOVERNMENT!!!!1" moment, but it is a very legitimate concern, even though the comparison to Pearl Harbor is extreme.

Oh darn. Too bad we already kinda signed treaties that, you know, say we can't do what we just said we're going to do.

Oops.
