So you can now click-drag an area with a marqee and the map view shows the current cell selection with a dotted line. We've also now got the tool window. It has just taken about two hours to get the checkable tool bar working and my God is the code for toolbars ugly.

I think once I've finished Map 2.0 I need to look very hard at trying to write some kind of wrapper framework for a lot of all this Win32 API stuff since it is very nasty code IMHO.

For C++, wxWidgets is pretty good, plus it's cross-platform. I didn't try that many though since I was just happy to be away from Win32.

If you're willing to switch to .Net, WinForms is awesome.

Yeah, people have recommended wxWidgets to me before. Probably a really good idea. Thanks.

I must be a masochist though. I'm still quite enjoying grappling with the Win32 API at the moment.
