Holiday Avatar

Nothing says 'Happy holidays!' quite like a single-cellular organism with a Santa hat. Nothing. [grin]

On that note, I think we should have a Holiday Avatar Contest just for kicks. So far I think Gaiiden will win -- holiday ninjas own! -- but we'll see...

Stargate SG-1

Gah, I've been obsessed with Stargate SG-1 for the last few weeks! So far I've watched about 50 episodes -- er, 33.33 hours -- and needless to say, I've lost TONS of potential development time. But darnit, that's one awesome series! When I finish up Season 3, then development should resume as normal, since the fellow supplying me with DVDs doesn't have any past that season.

Oh, uh, and finals. Those are coming in the next few weeks and like to eat up time, too. Nuts.

Now I see it, I couldn't figure out what your avatar was, but now it makes sense.... or as much sense as a Santa microbe can make[grin]

I think I've seen every single SG1 episode 3 times over, and I still love that show (although the older episodes kick so much more ass than the new ones)

Yeah it's the same with me. I'm watching like, 3 episodes of the West Wing each day .......

Never heard of SG1 though. What's it about?

The more obsessed fans around here might be able to give a better description, but I can give it a bash:

Stargate: SG1 is based around the premise that a top secret military facility has discovered an ancient alien artifact called the "Stargate" (basically a big metal disc with a code wheel on the outside), which when activated allows you to travel to any other stargate in the universe as long as you know its address. Unfortunately an alien parasitic race called the G'Ould (and I probably spelled that incorrectly [smile]) use these gates to travel around, where they like to enslave humankind and use them as hosts. Some time in the past they harvested people from all different cultures in the past and took them to other planets in the galaxy.

The series chronicles the leading away team from the military organisation on Earth (SG1) as they adventure to all those different offshoot human cultures, various other alien species and so on. The plot might have veered off in recent years as I'm out of touch with the show.

It was based on a mediocre sci-fi movie called Stargate out several years ago, but like Buffy the Vampire Slayer the TV series is much, much better than the movie it was based on.

I was largely turned off of SG-1 because of the mediocrity of the movie and games based on the movie, but from what I understand it does indeed have a cult following on GDNet, and several people I know personally like it.

Perhaps I've underestimated it; I did a similar thing with Babylon 5 back in the day and have lived to regret my mistake.

Aye, the biggest mistake people make is assuming that the series is like the movie, which it most definitely is not.

I love Stargate SG1! Stargate Atlantis is good too, but SG1 is just too awesome.

You have to see the 200th episode. It's hilarious. They make fun of some of the older Sci-fi shows and the new main character's (Forgot his real name. I knew him as John Criton.) previous show, FarScape. Good times, good times...

Can't wait for the next season to start! Anyone else here get the Scifi channel?

Oh, and happy belated birthday!

Here's a Baal :D
